Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Acting as the primary focal point for the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and safeguarding for field level project activities.
∎ Participating in identifying, reporting, and assisting with investigation processes related to PSEA & safeguarding.
∎ Conducting training sessions to raise awareness and build capacity among staff, stakeholders, network members on safeguarding principles to promote a culture of zero tolerance towards sexual exploitation, harassment, abuse, and GESI.
∎ Assisting in implementing and monitoring the safeguarding & GESI policies, practices, and procedures of Maitree.
∎ Ensuring immediate victim support as and when required by keeping the “Victim Centered Approach” in mind.
∎ Providing regular guidance and support to staff, stakeholders, beneficiaries, and learners on PSEA, safeguarding, and GESI in line with team’s expectations.
∎ Preparing regular reports on the status of PSEA and safeguarding initiatives, including any incidents or concerns; moreover, ensuring immediate response in consultation with the team, if required.
∎ Supporting and monitoring the investigative process for allegations related to sexual exploitation and abuse, adhering to established protocols and ensuring a survivor-centered and confidential approach.
∎ Collaborating with relevant authorities and internal stakeholders during the investigation process.
∎ Submitting reports to the Head Office/Focal Person in a timely manner.
∎ Establishing mechanisms for real-time reporting on the status of PSEA and safeguarding initiatives during emergencies.
∎ Closely working with project personnel to ensure the proper implementation of PSEA, safeguarding, and GESI matters.
∎ Reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of PSEA and GESI mechanisms and proposing adjustments if needed.
∎ Representing Maitree in relevant coordination meetings and forums related to PSEA and safeguarding at the field level in consultation with the GESI Specialist.
∎ JOB PURPOSE: BRAC is actively seeking a Officer, GESI & Safeguarding for Bangladesh America Maitree Activity (BAMA), a substantial project with a budget of USD 48 million. This 5-year program aims to enhance the capacity of local organizations aligned with USAID's strategic objectives in Bangladesh. Through a careful selection process, chosen local organizations will receive funding to implement programs, with a strong emphasis on strengthening their institutional capabilities.
∎ The Officer, GESI & Safeguarding will oversee the implementation and monitoring of safeguarding and GESI activities at the field level, in Maitree’s areas of implementation. This role requires a dedicated professional who is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in protecting the well-being of children, women, most vulnerable and socially excluded populations. The incumbent will work closely with the GESI Specialist to ensure Maitree’s safeguarding and GESI targets are achieved. As part of the effort, the Officer, GESI & Safeguarding shall support the GESI Specialist to ensure principles of safeguarding, gender equality and social inclusion. The position’s primary objective is to raise awareness on safeguarding, and to address, report, assist and mitigate safeguarding issues and cases. The officer shall assist the team to integrate safeguarding and GESI issues into all aspects of project implementation and workplace culture
∎ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

∎ SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES
∎ Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
∎ Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
∎ Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
