Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in managing donor-funded development projects, with at least 3 years in a managerial or coordination role.

  • Experience in livelihood, disaster risk reduction, child protection, community development, or resilience programming.

  • Experience working with international NGOs, UN agencies, or donor-funded projects is highly desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of project management, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, safeguarding, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Excellent communication, report writing, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office and project management tools.

  • Fluency in English and Bengali (written and spoken).

Position Overview

The Project Coordinator is responsible for providing overall leadership, coordination, planning, and management of the STEP Project implemented by the Institute of Development Affairs (IDEA), Project funded by SOS-Sweden and Technical support by SOS Children's Villages International in Bangladesh. The position ensures timely, high-quality, and results-oriented implementation of project activities related to livelihoods, disaster risk reduction (DRR), child protection, community mobilization, and institutional strengthening while ensuring compliance with donor requirements, organizational policies, and government regulations. The Project Coordinator will lead the project team, strengthen partnerships with local stakeholders, and ensure effective delivery of project outcomes for children and vulnerable families in flood-prone communities.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership and Management: Lead overall project implementation, develop annual, quarterly, and monthly work plans, coordinate project staff, monitor implementation progress, and ensure achievement of project objectives, outputs, and outcomes within approved timelines and budgets.

  • Technical Oversight: Provide technical guidance and quality assurance for project interventions on sustainable livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, child protection, safeguarding, gender equality, and community resilience. Ensure interventions meet project standards and beneficiary needs.

  • Stakeholder Coordination: Maintain effective coordination with SOS Children's Villages Bangladesh, government departments, Union Parishads, community-based organizations, schools, local NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders. Represent IDEA in coordination meetings, technical working groups, and project review forums.

  • Community Engagement: Lead community consultations, beneficiary selection and verification, awareness campaigns, social accountability initiatives, and community feedback mechanisms while ensuring inclusive participation of women, children, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups.

  • Team Supervision: Supervise and mentor Project Officers, Community Mobilizers, Community Facilitators, and Community Volunteers. Conduct regular performance reviews, identify capacity-building needs, and promote teamwork and accountability.

  • Planning, Monitoring and Reporting: Prepare implementation plans, progress reports, donor reports, event reports, success stories, case studies, lessons learned, and project completion reports. Ensure timely submission of quality reports to IDEA management and SOS Children's Villages Bangladesh.

  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL): Oversee project monitoring systems, indicator tracking, data quality assurance, beneficiary databases, field monitoring visits, outcome monitoring, beneficiary feedback mechanisms, and documentation of lessons learned.

  • Financial and Budget Oversight: Monitor project expenditures, review budget utilization, approve field expenditures, coordinate with the Finance & Administration Officer, ensure financial compliance, monitor procurement processes, and promote value for money.

  • Safeguarding and Compliance: Ensure implementation of Child Safeguarding, Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), Anti-Fraud Policy, Code of Conduct, and donor compliance requirements. Report safeguarding concerns through established mechanisms.

  • Risk Management and Knowledge Management: Identify and mitigate operational, financial, safeguarding, climate, and reputational risks. Lead documentation of good practices, learning papers, newsletters, communication materials, and project visibility initiatives.
