Job Context

The Merchandiser / Senior Merchandiser is responsible for ensuring effective product development, production management, and quality control of garments and related miscellaneous goods.

This role involves close coordination with buyers, internal teams, and manufacturing units to control delivery timelines, maintain required quality standards, and develop clothing and non-clothing products such as T-shirts, pants, shirts, outerwear, innerwear, bags, shoes, and sandals.

The position also requires providing technical guidance and compliance support to factories to ensure smooth production, cost efficiency, and on-time shipment in line with buyer specifications and organizational standards.

Responsibilities:

1 - Product Development

• Development of new materials

• Selection of appropriate factories from planning and drawings

• Cooperate and negotiate with the target factory to achieve the desired specifications and quality

• System registration work, quality test arrangement, and auxiliary material preparation related to product development

• Reporting to the head office (Tokyo) regarding the above contents and linking with them

2 - Delivery Schedule Management

• Planning of schedules from product development to mass production to shipment to launch

• Confirmation of production capacity and production LT before mass production

• To confirm the production progress and delivery time

• Reporting to the head office (Tokyo) regarding the above contents

3 - Quality Control

• Formulation of measures to predict and prevent quality problems at the product development stage

• Confirmation of quality of products that are mass-produced ahead of schedule

• Factory production environment check and improvement guidance

• Investigation of the cause of quality defects and improvement measures

• Reporting to the head office (Tokyo) on the above contents

4 - Cost Control

• Specification proposal to achieve target cost at the product planning stage

• Cost reduction plans other than product specifications such as packaging specifications

• Cost improvement through process improvement and efficiency planning

• Reporting to the head office (Tokyo) on the above contents

5 - Strengthening the organization and developing human resources

• Team management to achieve results in the above tasks

• Recruitment and development of local human resources necessary to achieve results

• Capability to build trust and foster teamwork among diverse members

• To manage and resolving issues through effective communication

It is necessary to go domestic and international business trips.

Requirements

• Academic: MBA / BBA in Marketing, BSc in Textile Engineering.

• Experience: 5 - 10 years of hands-on experience in Merchandising within reputed RMG factories or Buying Houses.

• Business English is a must (Japanese proficiency is highly valued and compensated accordingly)

• Ability to perform basic MS operations (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, Internet)

• Experience and knowledge as a clothing production management / quality control or planning and development person is a plus

• People who can work for a long term (people who can contribute to the company for as long as possible)

• Ability to respond flexibly, proactively, and appropriately to urgent or unexpected situations, or tasks that you have no experience with.
