Job Context / Purpose
The Disability Inclusion Officer plays a critical role in ensuring that education services in humanitarian settings are accessible, equitable, and inclusive for children and youth with disabilities living in the Rohingya refugee camps. In camps, where displacement, poverty, and vulnerability are widespread, children with disabilities face heightened risks of exclusion from learning opportunities. The officer’s purpose is to maintain disability inclusion across all education interventions, aligning with international humanitarian standards and national education frameworks.
Job Responsibilities:
Advocacy and Awareness:
Advocate for the rights of individuals with disabilities within the Rohingya community, raising awareness about the importance of disability inclusion in education.
Collaborate with local organizations, community leaders, and government authorities to promote a culture of inclusion.
Assessment and Data Collection:
Identify and assess the specific needs and barriers faced by children and adults with disabilities in accessing education.
Collect and maintain data related to disability demographics and their educational needs.
Inclusive Policy Development:
Contribute to the development of policies and strategies that promote disability inclusion in the education project.
Ensure that all policies, practices, and materials are accessible and sensitive to the needs of individuals with disabilities.
Capacity Building:
Train and educate teachers, staff, and volunteers on inclusive teaching methods and strategies to support learners with disabilities.
Empower families and communities to provide support and advocacy for individuals with disabilities.
Accessibility and Adaptation:
Work with the organization's teams to make educational materials, facilities, and resources accessible for learners with disabilities.
Ensure that necessary assistive devices and technologies are available and used effectively.
Individualized Support:
Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, in consultation with educators, parents, and relevant experts.
Monitor the progress of individuals with disabilities and provide necessary support and adjustments.
Coordination and Collaboration:
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including local NGOs, government agencies, and international partners, to strengthen disability inclusion efforts.
Organize and participate in coordination meetings and working groups related to disability inclusion in education.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Regularly assess and evaluate the effectiveness of disability inclusion initiatives and make data-driven recommendations for improvements.
Report on progress and challenges to project management and donors.
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain accurate records and reports related to disability inclusion activities.
Prepare and submit reports to relevant authorities and donors as required.
Policy Compliance & Safeguarding:
Ensure Practice of child safeguarding policy, PSEA policy, Gender policy, Code of Conduct among team members.
Advocate for the integration & upholding Core humanitarian Standard (CHS) among team & stakeholders.
Raise awareness among team & stakeholders about the importance of policy compliance of organization, government & donor and safeguarding in the context of the Rohingya response.
Safeguarding and PSEA: To meet the program`s objectives for safeguarding and PSEA implementation, make sure team members are protected from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation. serve as a major resource for help, direction, and knowledge on safeguarding & Child protection for developing a safe workplace. To ensure that safeguarding standards are used in every course of action, team members should practice, advocate, and embrace safeguarding policy concerns.
