Responsibilities & Context:
1. DCS Operation & Monitoring
Operate and monitor the Valmet Automation DCS for all production areas (stock prep, paper machine, utilities, boiler, power, etc.).
Ensure smooth and stable plant operations through real-time monitoring.
Detect abnormal trends, alarms, and process deviations and take corrective actions.
Start-up, shutdown, and grade change operations using DCS sequences.
2. Process Optimization
Analyze process data, trends, and KPIs from DCS historian.
Work with production and process teams to improve efficiency, quality, and energy consumption.
Tune PID loops and control strategies under guidance of automation engineers.
Reduce process variability and downtime.
3. Automation & Control System Support
Assist in configuration, logic testing, I/O checks, and control loop verification.
Support upgrades, backups, and patching of Valmet DCS servers, workstations, and networks.
Monitor system health, server performance, and communication networks.
4. IT & Computer System Integration
Maintain DCS servers, operator stations, virtualization systems, and network connections.
Support interfaces between DCS and ERP/MES/LIMS/Quality systems.
Manage data security, user access, and system backups.
Assist with cyber security compliance for industrial control systems.
5. Troubleshooting & Incident Handling
Diagnose DCS, PLC, network, and software-related issues.
Coordinate with Valmet Automation support and local maintenance teams.
Document incidents, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
6. Reporting & Documentation
Generate daily, weekly, and monthly production & performance reports.
Maintain system documentation, backups, alarm logs, and configuration records.
Prepare SOPs for DCS operations and system recovery.
