Project Berief: The Jameel Observatory CREWSnet project is an innovative climate-resilience initiative focused on vulnerable communities in Southwestern Bangladesh. It uses high-resolution climate forecasting and 30-year localized projections to help communities, farmers, policymakers, and government agencies understand and prepare for climate risks such as sea-level rise, cyclones, and salinity intrusion. The project combines climate information with practical solutions in sustainable agriculture, water security, and resilient infrastructure to support informed, proactive, and locally appropriate adaptation decisions.

Job Purpose: The agriculturist will be in a key strategic position to support the project Jameel Observatory-CREWSnet in driving the Climate Adaptation and resilience agenda forward in farming, including agronomy, horticulture, fisheries and livestock, etc. The agriculturist is expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge of acute food insecurity crises around the world and the role of climate extremes in these events. Synthesize information and data collected on climate monitoring, forecasting, and livelihoods in order to contribute to taskers, briefing notes, technical memos and reports.

(This is a contractual position and initial contract will be one year.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze local agricultural information relevant to project interventions and support the planning, implementation, and documentation of technology pilots and field-based research trials in accordance with project requirements.

  • Responsible to document current and historical agricultural practices, farming systems, and climate-related agricultural trends in the project areas, particularly in southwest Bangladesh.

  • Communicate the framing and climatic information with the community in an easy language.

  • Maintain close communication with the local government and local administration, and provide support to activity planning with the relevant authorities.

  • Actively participate in local-level planning, coordination, and execution of project activities to ensure effective and timely implementation.

  • Manage and analyze data on weather hazards, climate forecasts, and food security; assess end-user feedback on model-based projections and provide actionable insights and feedback to the research team.

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, external colleagues, partners, and stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and successful project implementation.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation to achieve the program’s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
