Responsibilities & Context:

Technical Leadership — Agriculture

  • Serve as the lead technical expert for agriculture across the Agriculture Unit, providing advanced diagnosis, guidance and problem-solving support to members and programme participants.

  • Maintain comprehensive working knowledge of the wider farming system, including livestock and poultry, so that agronomic advisory is delivered in the context of the borrower’s whole household enterprise.

  • Provide supervisory technical knowledge for assessing activities related to crop production, crop management and marketing.

  • Develop and refine technical standard operating procedures, protocols and best-practice guidelines for the agriculture discipline, and ensure consistent application across the cluster.

  • Review the technical accuracy of digital advisory content, including crop-stage advisory, weather alerts and voice messaging, in coordination with the Head Office technical coordination function.

  • Coordinate with the Technical Specialist – Livestock and the Technical Specialist – Fisheries where borrower needs span more than one discipline.

Field Service Delivery and Escalation

  • Conduct field visits and farm assessments, and handle complex or escalated technical cases referred by TSS Officers.

  • Ensure compliance with organisational and technical standard operating procedures across all branches in the cluster.

  • Oversee demonstration plots, safe cultivation practice and the adoption of high-yielding varieties across the cluster.

Team Supervision and Capacity Building

  • Mentor, train and provide technical supervision to the TSS Officers and field staff assigned to the cluster.

  • Design and deliver structured training for TSS Officers on crop-stage advisory, good agricultural practice and climate-smart agriculture.

  • Support the recruitment, induction and performance evaluation of TSS Officers within the cluster.

Planning, Monitoring and Reporting

  • Lead planning, implementation, monitoring and quality assurance of activities under the Agriculture Unit and related bilateral projects.

  • Assist in developing the business plan and facilitating all programme activities, projects and sub-projects under the Agriculture Unit.

  • Analyse field data and prepare technical reports, recommendations and periodic performance reports for management.

  • Identify technical challenges, implementation gaps and emerging risks, and recommend practical solutions to improve programme quality and effectiveness.

Partnerships and External Coordination

  • Coordinate and maintain liaison with local government offices, including the Department of Agricultural Extension, Department of Livestock Services and Department of Fisheries, together with research institutions and other stakeholders, on technical partnerships and knowledge-sharing.

  • Provide technical input on agricultural input packages developed under corporate partnerships, including seed, fertiliser, crop protection and mechanisation, and validate their agronomic suitability for SAJIDA’s borrower profile.

  • Support farmer group mobilisation, crop production planning, agro-enterprise development and the development of agri-entrepreneurs.

  • Build market linkage with local buyers and traders to establish market channels for programme participants.

  • Organise and coordinate issue-based workshops and seminars, and represent the Agriculture Unit in technical forums, training sessions and stakeholder meetings.

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with programme participants, community representatives, government extension services, private-sector actors and other programme stakeholders.

 Programme Integrity

  • Ensure that no technical support service, input package or partner-linked activity is delivered in any branch designated as a research control area. The programme’s comparative research design depends on this boundary being maintained without exception. Ensure that overall programme objectives are met.

  • Verify that borrower and activity records maintained by TSS Officers are accurate and correctly classified in the management information system, and escalate discrepancies between field observation and system records.

Mobility

  • Travel extensively within the assigned cluster and, where required, support other locations across Bangladesh.

  • Support the implementation of other agriculture projects in the working areas as required.
