Job Context:
∎ The Program Manager, Literacy (IDTS, South Asia) is part of Room to Read`s Literacy team. The primary duties of this position are supporting Room to Read`s Country Offices in South Asia, and custom projects in creating and implementing materials that support children`s learning and prepare countries to scale their programs. This may include work in instruction, library management and reading activities, and children`s book publishing. The Program Manager will also support global literacy program content development and literacy program research, monitoring, and evaluation as needed, in close collaboration with Global colleagues. This position reports directly to the Global Literacy Program Director and is part of Room to Read`s Global Office.
∎ This position is based in Bangladesh and requires international travel.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Contribute to the evolution of the Literacy Program design for scale and systems-level impact
∎ Provide support to implement Room to Read's strategic priorities
∎ Recruit and manage consultants to support GO LP program objectives, if needed
∎ Identify and share best practices and lessons learned from the creation and implementation of curricula and trainings in the region so that these can inform other countries' progress and/or global program design
∎ Provide professional development for CO, field staff, and other stakeholders
∎ Work with Room to Read country team members or custom project stakeholders to develop their skills in understanding literacy curriculum, teacher professional development and libraries from both a theoretical and practical perspective
∎ Serve as technical lead for Literacy for Bangladesh and Nepal to implement Room to Read's Literacy Program
∎ Providing technical leadership/direction to BD and NP, especially in planning and development of materials
∎ Supporting COs to develop and implement strategic plans to influence systems
∎ Coordinating and supervising GO LP technical support to CO LP portfolios
∎ Support to COs on Annual Planning and Budgeting process
∎ Reviewing technical sections of Quarterly Reports
∎ Support on Room to Read custom projects in BD, NP and outside the region:
∎ Providing support to COs on custom projects, including material development and project implementation
∎ Support to custom projects outside of South Asia, as needed and available, including internal project design and planning, support to material development and project implementation, external engagement as appropriate
∎ Provide input into business development opportunities as well as communication with the fundraising team as related to donor reporting on design and technical assistance activities
∎ Provide support for new opportunities, including reviewing RFPs, partnership opportunities and support on technical proposal development
∎ Support to SA literacy program for Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation
∎ Work with CO program staff, regional counterpart, and Research, Monitoring and Evaluation staff to determine lessons drawn from evaluation data
∎ Support RM&E to assess and revise Room to Read's formative and evaluative assessments (e.g. Student Tracking and EGRA)
∎ In collaboration with RME, provide support to CO teams on creating assessment tools
∎ Represent Room to Read and the Literacy team internally and externally, as needed, to message our work
∎ Support engaging with governments and partners, in collaboration with CO staff
∎ Presenting at conferences and other thought leadership activities
∎ Participate in interviewing and training of new Country and Global Literacy team staff, where necessary

Additional Requirements:
∎ Excellent knowledge, understanding and experience of technical work in reading/literacy at the primary stage
∎ Prior experience living and/or working in South Asia
∎ Experience developing curriculum and/or educational learning materials for students or teachers
∎ Experience conducting high quality training programs and professional development activities for teachers
∎ Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
∎ Candidate located in Bangladesh
∎ Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
∎ Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative
∎ Ability to work with independence and manage a diverse group of people through a project cycle
∎ Ability and willingness to travel internationally (30-40% time)
∎ A minimum of 7-10 years of professional experience
∎ Significant experience in one or more South Asia countries including visiting primary classrooms and working with teachers and children around issues of learning
∎ Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead
∎ Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization
