Experience Requirement:

  • A minimum of 2 years-experience in the field of migration, IDP and refugee assistance and protection (including specific experience on Protection or casework);
  • Experience in emergency operations and liaison with other UN and non-UN humanitarian actors.
  • Knowledge of the region and/or country an advantage.

  • Knowledge of foundational concepts in relation to protection and protection mainstreaming (IASC Protection Policy, Sphere Standards, Child Protection Minimum Standards, ICRC Professional Protection Standards, GBV Standard Operating Procedures; IASC GBV Guidelines; IASC Gender Handbook; WHO Ethical and Safety Recommendations for Researching, Documenting and Monitoring Sexual Violence in Emergencies; Camp Management Toolkit etc.)
  • Knowledge of ISCG (inter-agency coordination group), sectors, and the Rohingya Refugee Response.
  • Candidate must be familiar with the UN system.

Languages: Required - Fluency in English, Bengali, Chittagonian dialect.



Responsibilities & Context:

Job Location: Anywhere in Cox's Bazar.

Job Responsibility:

  • Support supervisors in assisting beneficiaries by applying Protection principles and techniques, interagency guidelines, and IOM procedures, and by collaborating with IOM Child Protection, Counter-trafficking and GBV teams, IOM Site Management and Site Development, and other partners.
  • Support the implementation of IOM protection activities. Key tasks may include interacting with the community daily, identifying the needs of extremely vulnerable individuals, supporting referrals for services, protection monitoring, and protection mainstreaming.
  • Assist supervisors in the camp by, for example, representing IOM Protection in camp and Sector-level meetings, donor visits, and interacting with relevant partners on Protection issues.
  • Support IOM Protection’s front-liner role in the camps for emergency preparedness and response mechanisms.
  • Hold office in the respective protection desks, record and maintain all cases involving persons of concern that approach the protection desks;
  • Conduct daily visits around the camp to observe, identify, and collect information on the situation of the Rohingya, taking into special account vulnerable people, noting and reporting on gaps that may exist in service provision;
  • Monitor the state of the camp (schools, child friendly spaces, water points, clinics, shelters, latrines, roads, etc.) and report any gaps, misuse or repairs needed;
  • Support in community mobilization and formation of leadership structures such as the community protection committee, women’s committee, elderly and disabled committee, youth committee as well as other committees or groups;
  • Collect data on and report any incidents, threats, or risks in the camp using the Incident Report Form;
  • Monitor food distributions and other camp events to ensure equal access, non-discrimination, protection of extremely vulnerable individuals, and compliance with Codes of Conduct.
  • Conduct regular focus group discussions or other conversational forums with the community to understand their perceptions of service provision within the camp.
  • Identify protection issues and report to the Senior Protection Field Assistant for referral to the relevant actors;
  • Report any discriminatory access to basic provisions and services as water, food, shelter, basic health services, particularly for persons with specific needs;
  • Inform the camp population of their rights and obligations and services available;
  • Assist supervisors with reporting and administration of field activities, such data entry, drafting text, collaborating with colleagues to meet deadlines, and identifying programmatic gaps.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with relevant stakeholders including community leaders, partners, government officials, other sector staff and other implementing organizations on the ground.
  • Perform other tasks that may be assigned.

    Compensation & Benefits: Monthly gross salary for this position is BDT 77,350.17.
