A crucial downside of the growing urbanisation, is the increasing inequality in the urban context. 38% of Bangladesh`s urban population live in slums. Many of these are climate migrants who are forced to move to urban areas after losing their homes to river bank erosions or climate change. Different sources show, that slum dwellers are the most vulnerable of our time, looking at social and health indicators compared to the rural or urban population. Accelerated urbanization and the challenges that come with it are indeed recognized by the GoB and resulted in different initiatives and programs on national and regional levels. Nevertheless, especially in Dhaka City and other urban centers, still a high number of people live in extreme poverty, reside in an insecure environment, are excluded from public services and do not profit from these initiatives.
