Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Prepare the operation theatre before surgery (cleaning, sterilizing, arranging instruments).
∎ Assist in setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and materials.
∎ Ensure the availability of sterilized linen, surgical tools, and supplies.
∎ Help in shifting and positioning patients onto the operating table as per surgical requirement.
∎ Assist in preparing the surgical site (shaving, cleaning, and disinfecting).
∎ Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients before surgery.
∎ Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses during procedures.
∎ Hand over surgical instruments and materials as directed.
∎ Monitor and handle equipment (e.g., suction machines, lights, diathermy).
∎ Ensure aseptic techniques and sterile environment are maintained throughout.
∎ Assist in transferring the patient from OT to the recovery room or ICU.
∎ Help in the cleaning and disposal of used instruments and materials.
∎ Disinfect and reset the OT for the next surgery.
∎ Keep track of surgical instruments, consumables, and OT supplies.
∎ Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of OT equipment.
∎ Report any malfunctioning or missing instruments immediately.
∎ Assist in maintaining OT records including surgical logs and equipment checklists.
∎ Ensure proper labeling and dispatching of samples (biopsy, blood, etc.) to the lab.
∎ Follow all infection control protocols, including hand hygiene and PPE use.
∎ Properly dispose of bio-medical waste according to hospital policy.
∎ Maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety in the OT.
∎ Pre-Operative Preparation
