Responsibilities & Context:

Purpose

This role manages the end-to-end coal supply chain—from global sourcing and procurement to vessel (Mother & Lighter) scheduling, port handling ensuring cost-effective, reliable supply for power plants, industries, & exports. This position requires international coal trade expertise, strategic planning & high-volume operations.

 Responsibilities

 Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement integrated supply chain and operations strategies to support Jamuna Group’s coal trading and distribution goals.

  • Lead demand planning, sourcing, and supply assurance strategies for both domestic and international coal procurement.

  • Collaborate with commercial, finance, and technical teams to align supply chain activities with business KPIs.

  • Establish performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain.

Procurement & Sourcing

  • Lead international and local procurement of coal, ensuring optimal cost, quality, and compliance.

  • Negotiate contracts with overseas suppliers, shipping companies, and third-party agents.

  • Maintain strong relationships with global coal miners, traders, government entities, and regulatory bodies.

  • Stay updated on commodity trends, pricing dynamics, and supplier market intelligence.

Logistics & Operations

  • Oversee full-cycle logistics operations including sea freight, rail, and road transportation.

  • Supervise chartering, Mother & Lighter vessel scheduling, port handling, discharge, and inland distribution.

  • Optimize freight costs, turnaround time, and delivery reliability.

  • Ensure effective coordination between port authorities, clearing agents, and transport providers.

Inventory Management & Warehousing

  • Implement inventory planning models including safety stock and reorder levels.

  • Monitor inventory in transit, bonded warehouse, and plant stock locations using ERP and inventory tools.

  • Maintain storage infrastructure, coal yard management, and preventive measures to control quality loss.

  • Design and enforce SOPs for inventory reconciliation and reporting.

Import/Export Management

  • Ensure timely processing of Letters of Credit (LC), insurance, and import documentation.

  • Coordinate with banks, customs authorities, and freight forwarders for smooth import clearance.

  • Stay compliant with NBR, customs, port authority, and shipping line requirements.

  • Address cross-border logistics and any re-export activities if applicable.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with local and international trade regulations, environmental norms, and HSE standards.

  • Conduct risk assessments and implement contingency plans for supply disruptions, price volatility, and regulatory changes.

  • Monitor audit trails, documentations, and adherence to import/export policies and internal controls.

Key Requirements for this Position:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, Engineering, or related field.

  • Certifications like CSCP, PMP, Six Sigma, or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

  • 15–18 years of experience in supply chain, procurement, or logistics, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.

  • Mandatory experience in coal, bulk commodities, or large-scale industrial raw material management.

  • Proven experience in import/export operations, shipping, and port logistics in the Bangladesh context.
