Additional Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Textile Engineering, preferably with a focus on Fabric Manufacturing, Yarn Engineering, or Wet Processing from reputed institutes.

  • 3–6+ years of experience in Fabric R&D, preferably in a knit-based export house or composite textile mill.

  • Exposure to international buyer development meetings and sample development cycles is a strong plus.

  • In-depth knowledge of:

    • Knit fabric structures, knitting techniques, and machine types (circular, flat knit).

    • Yarn types & fiber properties.

    • Dyeing and finishing processes for knits.

  • Familiarity with global sustainable fabric trends and certifications.

  • Understanding of buyer standards and testing protocols.

  • Technical expertise in fabric costing and production feasibility.



Responsibilities & Context:
  • Research global and seasonal fabric trends for knitwear.

  • Develop new knit fabric constructions, blends and finishes (bio-polish, silicone wash, etc.)

  • Work with knitting and dyeing units to experiment with yarns, gauges, machine settings, and finishing techniques.

  • Understand and interpret buyer tech packs, mood boards, and trend forecasts.

  • Develop proto samples, swatches, and fabric hangers as per buyer briefs.

  • Attend meetings with buyers/merchandisers to showcase new fabric developments.

  • Source innovative yarns, sustainable fibers (organic, recycled, newness), and trims for fabric development.

  • Liaise with yarn suppliers for trial lots and testing.

  • Work closely with the dyeing department to create lab dips and achieve color targets.

  • Ensure accurate shade matching, color fastness, and reproducibility in bulk.

  • Evaluate fabric performance (GSM, shrinkage, pilling, recovery, stretch, spirelet ).

  • Ensure all R&D fabrics meet buyer-specific quality and test standards.

  • Collaborate with QC and testing labs to validate new developments.

  • Maintain a comprehensive fabric library with specs, test results, and buyer feedback.

  • Prepare technical data sheets and costing breakdowns for new developments.

  • Provide timely feedback and reports to customers, management and merchandising teams.
