Experience:
The Project for Strengthening Health Care Systems for Preventing Non-Communicable Diseases, known as SHASTO-2, implemented by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with support from JICA, aims to improve the quality of essential services for NCD prevention and care in rural areas of Bangladesh. The District Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination, management, and implementation of project activities at the district level. He/she supports the government in implementing the NCD Management Model across all levels of health facilities, facilitates capacity-building activities for District, Upazila level and Community Clinic (CC) focal persons and Core Team members, and works to strengthen supportive supervision and monitoring mechanisms for Community Clinics (CCs), Community Groups (CGs), and other community resources within the district. The District Coordinator also provides feedback and lessons learned to the central level to inform scaling-up efforts.
The District Coordinator is responsible for working closely with the Government and other partners as a facilitator to strengthen the capacity of district and upazila-level government health departments for the prevention and control of NCDs in rural areas through community mobilization.
Support the Government in implementing the NCD Management Model (WHO-PEN–related) in the assigned district and compile experiences and feedback.
Assist the government counterparts in organizing effective trainings, workshops, and meetings at the local level.
Facilitate the improvement of NCD services at District Hospitals, Upazila Health Complexes, and Community Clinics (CCs) through capacity building of health providers.
Support health facilities in implementing Quality Improvement activities (including 5S initiatives) in the assigned district.
Provide technical support for district and upazila-level supervision and monitoring activities to promote community-level awareness for NCD prevention and control.
Provide technical support to enhance the capacity of Community Groups (CGs) and community resources for NCD prevention and control by participating in their regular meetings.
Facilitate joint monitoring visits of project activities in the assigned district and provide feedback and propose practical solutions to identified problems.
Assist in financial procedures and local procurement as instructed by the project administration.
Coordinate activities with the health sector, local government, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
Submit activity reports, such as monthly reports, documentation of lessons learned, and other administrative and financial documents.
