Job Context:
∎ The functions of the Bangladesh offices of the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh have transitioned to the RMG Sustainability Council (RSC), a permanent national organisation with equal representation from RMG manufacturers, global apparel companies, and trade unions representing garment workers.
∎ The RSC will continue with factory inspections, remediation monitoring, safety training and an independent safety & health complaints mechanism available to workers in RMG factories.
∎ The RSC seeks a Chief Safety Officer (CSO) to continue the work of ensuring worker safety in the Bangladesh Ready Made Garment. Reporting to the board of the RSC, the position will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES will include but will not necessarily be limited to :
∎ Evaluating Factory Safety:
∎ The CSO will continue the effort to train, develop, deploy and supervise an inspectorate capable of evaluating Fire, Electrical, Structural and Boiler safety in Bangladesh Ready-Made-Garment (RMG) factories, and in associated factories, which supply the RSC associated Brands.
∎ Improving Inspection Standards:
∎ The CSO will recommend to the Board enhanced methods of ensuring improve compliance with NTPA standards, taking into account experience gained during the seven years of the Bangladesh Accord for Fire and Building Safety.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Thorough knowledge of building and / or fire safety codes of a high standard jurisdiction
∎ Professional certification or licensing by a major national or international body
∎ Minimum 10 years relevant experience
∎ Willingness and capacity to be based abroad
∎ Ability to manage a budget
∎ Evidence of social and cultural sensitivity
∎ Some knowledge of human and labour rights
