Introduction:
The Ready-Made-Garments (RMG) Sustainability Council (RSC) is an unprecedented initiative to ensure that garments exported from Bangladesh are produced in safe factories. The RSC carries forward the significant accomplishments made on workplace safety in Bangladesh following the Tazreen fire and Rana Plaza collapse incidents. The RSC conducts structural, electrical, fire, and boiler safety inspections of factories, supports and monitors remediation, conducts safety training and operates an independent safety & health complaints mechanism available to workers in covered RMG factories.
Overall Job Purpose:
The Remediation Programme Officer (RPO) is an execution-level role within the Remediation Programme of the RMG Sustainability Council (RSC), responsible for implementing and coordinating inspection and remediation activities across assigned factories. The role reports to the Team Leader – Remediation Programme (TL-RP) and plays a key role in ensuring effective execution of programme operations in alignment with organizational protocols, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
The RPO is responsible for managing day-to-day remediation activities at the factory level, including follow-up and review of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), coordination of inspection-related actions, and support for escalation processes. The role ensures timely updating of programme data in systems such as FFC/Salesforce, accurate documentation, and consistent tracking of remediation progress.
The position supports escalation management by monitoring factory compliance, preparing escalation-related documentation, and coordinating meetings and follow-up actions. The RPO also contributes to handling special investigations and technical queries, ensuring timely communication and coordination among factories, brands, unions, and internal teams.
The RPO plays an important role in maintaining accurate records and supporting reporting processes, including document submission tracking, data validation, and maintenance of qualitative and quantitative information for assigned factories. The role also supports monitoring and evaluation activities through factory visits, verification processes, and reporting of critical safety and compliance risks.
Through effective coordination, documentation, and follow-up, the RPO ensures timely implementation of remediation actions, supports programme consistency, and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the Inspection and Remediation Programme.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Corrective Action Planning
• Follow up with assigned factories to obtain the latest Corrective Action Plans (CAPs).
• Review submitted CAP updates, including action plans and supporting evidence, and provide appropriate comments.
• Update CAPs in the database (FFC/Salesforce) and ensure publication on the RSC website.
• Track follow-ups and related inspection CAPs and ensure timely system updates.
• Prepare meeting factsheets, minutes, and follow up on action points for Finance/Remediation/Technical meetings.
Managing Escalations
• Follow up with factories scheduled for inspections to ensure participation.
• Monitor escalation status, analyze Escalation Assessment Forms (EAF), and prepare recommendations.
• Coordinate escalation meetings (Stage 1 & 2).
• Prepare escalation meeting factsheets, minutes, and track action points.
• Identify uncooperative factories and coordinate with the escalation team.
Managing Records & Document Submission
• Update the Case Management Tool (CMT) for day-to-day operations.
• Ensure inspection reports and CAPs are uploaded to FFC/Salesforce and shared with relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure timely submission of required documents (DEA/EA, SLD, FADS, SUPS, SFP, PFP, etc.).
• Maintain accurate, detailed, and verified qualitative and quantitative data for assigned factories.
• Provide interpretation and translation support as required.
• Ensure dispatch of recognition/no-colour letters to eligible factories.
• Maintain and update records related to closures, relocations, and remediation finance.
• Ensure timely follow-up on direct contribution collection from factories.
Managing Special Investigations
• Track special investigations and maintain records in the database.
• Propose critical cases for factory list review meetings for resolution.
• Receive and coordinate responses to technical queries from stakeholders (brands, factories, unions).
Overall Monitoring & Evaluation Process
• Conduct factory visits (e.g., closure verification, occupancy verification) to monitor worker safety.
• Report observed critical health and safety risks.
• Alert the Team Leader on issues affecting remediation progress.
Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the TL/Management to support organizational objectives.
