Job Context:
∎ Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) is a National NGO with Consultative Status with UN ECOSOC and UNESCO. It works for social and spiritual development of the community. Founded with the motto of `Divine and Humanitarian Service`, over 62 years DAM has been serving the human community for improved living conditions enhancing people`s capacities to multi-dimensional field programs and inner potentials. DAM`s current diversified works encompass multi-dimensional field programs and self-governing institutions in education, health and economic development sectors in Bangladesh.
∎ DAM is going to implement the advocacy and communication element of a wider project titled- Child Labour: Action-Research-Innovation in South and South-Eastern Asia (CLARISSA) with the financial support from Consortium of Street Children (CSC), London, UK. This project is part of a consortium, led by the Institute of Development Studies, with Terre des Hommes and ChildHope, and funded by DFID (Department for International Development UK).
∎ DAM invites applications for the position of "Advocacy and Communications Expert."
∎ Project Duration: July 2020 to June 2023
∎ Type of contract: Contractual
∎ Project Location: Dhaka

Job Responsibilities:
∎ In Bangladesh, we are looking for someone who can empower vulnerable children currently or formerly in the worst forms of child labour to understand their rights, and develop their own messages for change. We are looking for someone who has experience using human rights law standards to promote legal, policy and practice change at a local and national level.
∎ Experience of stakeholder engagement at the highest level and ability to achieve change is essential, as is the capacity to develop new strategic partnerships. In particular, in depth understanding on government policies and protocols in place and good working experience with government stakeholders to create engagement for change.
∎ A good understanding of communications tools and approaches is essential to ensure that CLARISSA's messages are shared and taken up by target audiences. Candidates should also be familiar with the media landscape in Bangladesh.
∎ Candidates must be able to act as a champion of CLARISSA's principles and approach - children's agency; learning and adaptive management, action research; integrated working; and a focus on meaningful inclusion of the poorest and most marginalised.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum 5 Years' Experience of advocacy/policy advocacy to multiple stakeholders at local and national level
∎ Experience of working directly with highly vulnerable and marginalised children, adults and communities in particular child labourers
∎ Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable children or other marginalised groups to bring out their voices to decision- and policy-makers
∎ Experience of overseeing and implementing child-led / participatory processes
∎ Experience and knowledge of safeguarding and risk assessment with vulnerable and marginal groups
∎ Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
∎ Strong all-round communication skills, especially writing and editing
∎ Ability to summarise complex research information in clear, non-specialist language
∎ Ability to network effectively with key local, national and international stakeholder
∎ Demonstrated understanding of using Twitter and Facebook to communicate
∎ Ability to identify and write blogs and articles in an accessible and engaging way for different audiences.
∎ Existing relationships with relevant government and other relevant stakeholders
∎ Experience facilitating advocacy trainings, workshops or dialogues with vulnerable and marginalised children
∎ Experience engaging with regional and international human rights mechanisms
∎ Understanding of complexity-based approaches to change' (or willingness to learn)
∎ Experience with existing platforms for children to voice their views, such as Children's Parliament and taskforces.
∎ Experience of working with complex research and communicating it to non-expert/academic audiences
∎ Experience of creating multimedia products - i.e. short films and interviews
∎ Fluency in spoken and written Bangla and English
∎ Knowledge of children's rights and the relevant national legal/policy framework
∎ A good understanding of the local context and opportunities and barriers to creating change
∎ Knowledge of child safeguarding
∎ Knowledge of media landscape
∎ A good understanding of the realities faced by children in the worst forms of child labour and those who are vulnerable to being drawn into it.
∎ Competence in using MS office
∎ Knowledge of the local contexts such as socio-cultural norms in which the child labour work will take place
∎ Passion for the programme content, issues and approach e.g. child labour, participatory approach, child-centredness
∎ Commitment to the principles of equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices
∎ Willingness to travel to and work with communities living in poverty in remote areas
∎ Self-motivated, goal-oriented, pro-active, enthusiastic and entrepreneurial attitude
∎ Commitment to team and collaborative working
∎ Comfortable facilitating emergent processes, allowing outcomes to emerge through dialogue and action over time
∎ High level of social intelligence

Salary:
∎ Monthly Salary: BDT 139,257.46 (Take-home)
