Additional Requirements:
  • Age 25 to 30 years
  • At least 2 years of experience in a pathological laboratory in a healthcare facility. NGO/Emergency response-related experience is preferred
  • Previous experience of working in NGO/Emergency response programme.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols.
  • Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
  • Good communication skill and basic computer skill.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a hard-to-reach area.


Responsibilities & Context:

Responsible for:

  • Ensure care & maintenance of all the lab instruments & equipment.

  • Carrying out regular & emergency lab procedures.

  • Ensure availability of all related reagents & logistics of the laboratory, ensure proper storage and usage of equipment & consumables.

  • Review stock & initiate requisition for laboratory activities.

  • Documentation of all lab activities.

  • Keep service records and prepare monthly report.

  • Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.

  • Attend all training and ensure knowledge dissemination to assistant.

  • Ensuring collection, processing, and handling of all biological specimens according to IPCD.

  • Counsel the patients on the sample collection process.

  • Conducts blood tests for transfusion purposes; may draw blood from the patient's finger, ear lobe, or vein observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.

Activities:

  • Conducting and supporting scientific investigations and experiments.

  • Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, as assigned; conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid; performs blood counts using a microscope.

  • Develops and maintains cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes, as appropriate; isolates and identifies specimens, using advanced laboratory techniques.

  • Performs quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracy.

  • Performs calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy.

  • Keeps records and reports on results according to established procedures.

  • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Planning, setting up, and undertaking controlled experiments and trials.

  • Recording and analyzing data, and demonstrating procedures. Collecting, preparing, and/or testing samples

  • Maintaining, calibrating, cleaning, and testing the sterility of the equipment

  • Providing technical support and presenting results to senior staff.

  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments.

  • Supervising staff, carrying out risk assessments, ordering and maintaining stock and resources.
