Sr. Manager / AGM – Legal
Job Context
SEL is looking for an experienced legal professional with strong exposure to the real estate and property development sector. The role will be responsible for managing land and property-related legal matters, contracts, regulatory documentation, litigation, and legal risk while supporting management on major business and project decisions.
Job Responsibilities
Lead legal due diligence and title verification of land proposed for acquisition or development, including ownership records, chain of title, khatian/porcha, mutation, land tax records, registered deeds, inheritance documents, possession, encumbrances, and other relevant land records.
Provide legal opinion on land title, ownership, documentation gaps, and associated legal risks before acquisition or development decisions.
Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize Joint Venture/Development Agreements, Power of Attorney, sale/purchase agreements, deeds, MoUs, undertakings, and other project-related legal documents.
Oversee registration, mutation/namjari, record correction, land documentation, and other legal formalities related to real estate projects.
Provide legal support on matters involving RAJUK/CDA or other relevant authorities, Sub-Registry Offices, AC (Land)/DC Offices, land authorities, City Corporations, and other government agencies.
Review and manage legal documentation relating to apartment and commercial space sales, including agreements for sale, transfer, registration, cancellation, mortgage/NOC, and handover-related matters.
Draft, review, and vet commercial contracts and agreements with contractors, suppliers, consultants, service providers, banks, customers, and other stakeholders.
Manage litigation, legal notices, disputes, arbitration/mediation, landowner or customer claims, and other legal proceedings in coordination with external lawyers where required.
Advise management and concerned departments on legal risks, contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and preventive legal measures.
Lead and supervise the Legal team and ensure proper control, safeguarding, and tracking of land documents, contracts, case files, legal opinions, and other confidential records.
Prepare periodic management updates on land/title status, registrations, litigation, major contracts, pending legal matters, and key legal risks.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognized university.
LL.M. will be an added advantage.
Enrollment with the Bangladesh Bar Council will be preferred.
Experience Requirements
10-12 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with a reputed real estate developer, property development company, or organization with significant land and property transactions.
Candidates with strong experience in land law, title verification, real estate documentation, registration, contracts, and litigation will be preferred.
Prior experience in a managerial/legal leadership role will be an advantage.
Additional Requirements
Strong knowledge of Bangladesh land and property-related laws, registration procedures, mutation, land records, and real estate documentation.
Sound understanding of Joint Venture/Development Agreements, Power of Attorney, land acquisition, apartment/commercial property sale documentation, and contractual matters.
Strong legal drafting, vetting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
Ability to deal effectively with government authorities, external lawyers, landowners, customers, banks, and internal stakeholders.
Strong judgment, integrity, confidentiality, and ability to identify and manage legal risks.
Good communication, team management, and stakeholder management skills.
