Job Context:
∎ For the team of our bilateral project "Good Working Conditions in Tanneries (GO!TAN)" we seek applications for the position of "Social Security Advisor".
∎ Contract Duration till: April 2025
∎ Band: 4T
∎ Project Background:
∎ The leather industry is the second largest export industry in Bangladesh with around 850,000 employees and plays a key role in the national diversification strategy. However, global competitiveness suffers from disregard for labour and environmental standards, especially in tanneries. The bilateral project Good Working Conditions in Tanneries (GO!TAN) is intended to strengthen the framework conditions for improved compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) in tanneries. Together with the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) and implementing partners, especially the Department of Inspections for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), the project focuses on study programmes in the areas of organisational and capacity development of the tannery sector.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ The position holder is responsible for:
∎ managing an area of responsibility that refers to tannery level interventions in creating good working conditions
∎ assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups
∎ advise supervisor on all task when implementing GIZ rules and regulation
∎ advise supervisor in the field of project's planning, steering and monitoring
∎ independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager
∎ make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit
∎ assist supervisor to identify day to day problem and suggest appropriate solution
∎ Tasks (Specific for job role):
∎ The position holder will be:
∎ planning, organizing and implementing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) measures related activities at tannery level
∎ implementing risk assessment measures on OHS and use innovation in controlling the identified risks
∎ designing and implementing OHS campaign measures for the workers in tannery sector
∎ introduce innovations in achieving programme objectives conforming team agreements and/or agreements with the superior
∎ mobilizing the tannery owners, associations and other relevant stakeholders in streamlining their required support
∎ establishing networking with the OHS professionals, relevant organizations in creating better coordination
∎ providing advisory support and coordinating capacity development for partner personnel (Ministry of Labour and Employment and Department of Inspections for Factories and Establishments) with regards to adoption and implementation of inspection system in the tannery sector
∎ identify the relevant educational institution in integrating the relevant courses for the management staff of tannery
∎ coordinate with international experts and consultants and providing required support as to create the best outputs of assignment
∎ assisting in conducting a constructive dialogue with the private sector, civil society, national and international organisations, research and international development cooperation programmes to achieve better working conditions in tanneries
∎ participate is discussion with other development partners with the aim of synergies
∎ planning, steering and monitoring of the project activities to achieve the project goals
∎ Other Tasks:
∎ The position holder will be:
∎ supporting the project manager with reporting and knowledge management within the project and communicating progress and results to a broad target group
∎ representing GIZ towards stakeholders and ensure that GIZ values and principles are upheld
∎ ensuring safeguarding the quality of process of the project

Additional Requirements:
∎ 5 years in relevant occupational experience with international exposure
∎ 3 years of professional experience and in conducting trainings on Occupational Health and Safety in the tannery sector
∎ In depth knowledge of human and labour law standards and compliance at company level and in global supply chains, especially in the leather industry
∎ Knowledge of GIZ's instruments and procedures as well as experience in communication with federal ministries/ policy advice and in cooperation with other donors
∎ Other knowledge, additional competences

∎ Ability to work well under pressure and must be a strong team player
∎ Must have good interpersonal and communication skills
∎ Fluency in English is essential
∎ Ability to work in an intercultural environment
∎ Good organizational skills and management expertise
∎ Strong quantitative skills
∎ Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed - corresponding measures are agreed with management
