About the Role:
Company is a fast-scaling healthtech startup deploying radar-based fall detection and wellness sensors across homes, nursing facilities, and care networks. With 100,000+ device deployments planned, we’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer with IoT experience to take ownership of our cloud infrastructure, improve system reliability, and scale our backend for real- time device data.
Key Responsibilities:
● Manage and optimize our existing NestJS + Firebase backend handling device data from IoT sensors
● Maintain cloud-to-cloud integrations with third-party device vendors
● Build scalable APIs, real-time alert systems, and heartbeat monitoring for 24/7 operation
● Improve system observability (CloudWatch, Realtime DB, latency tracking, device offline detection)
● Ensure full security/compliance for device-cloud data pipelines
● Lead CI/CD, logging, alerting, and recovery automation
● Document all backend logic and data flow for maintenance and onboarding
Tech Environment:
● Node.js, NestJS, TypeScript
● Firebase (Functions, Firestore, Realtime DB, Auth)
● AWS (EC2, S3, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, SNS)
● MQTT, REST APIs, Webhooks
● Docker, GitHub Actions, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines
Required Skills:
● 5+ years of backend engineering (Node.js/NestJS)
● Proven experience building for IoT device data (MQTT or cloud-connected sensors)
● Deep familiarity with Firebase + AWS in production systems
● Experience scaling backend systems for 10k+ concurrent devices or events
● Strong debugging, documentation, and architecture skills
Nice to Have:
● Experience with radar, BLE, or fall detection systems
● Familiarity with device provisioning, remote OTA updates, or diagnostics
● Experience working in real-time healthcare or eldercare monitoring systems
● Terraform, Infra-as-Code, or AWS CDK familiarity
