The Role

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own and evolve the application backend that ingests radar telemetry from tens of thousands of deployed sensors, routes alerts to monitoring partners in under a second, and powers our family-facing dashboard.

Our backend is built using NestJS (Node.js/TypeScript) with MongoDB as the primary database, exposed via REST APIs.

Infrastructure and DevOps are managed via AWS cloud services with CI/CD pipelines powered by Jenkins, ArgoCD, and related tooling. While you won’t manage raw infrastructure, you will own the application-layer architecture, database design, integrations, observability, and collaborate closely with the DevOps/platform team to meet our 99.99% SLA.

This is a high-ownership role where you will shape how the platform scales from hundreds of devices today to hundreds of thousands.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable REST APIs using NestJS (Node.js/TypeScript) for sensor ingestion, partner integrations, and user dashboards.

• Own and optimize MongoDB schema design, including indexing strategies, aggregation pipelines, and performance tuning for high-volume telemetry data.

• Build and harden the IoT ingestion pipeline (MQTT/WebSocket/HTTPS) to handle real-time radar telemetry and fall detection events, including retry mechanisms, buffering, and back-pressure handling.

• Implement and maintain integrations with external monitoring partners (PERS systems), including alert delivery, acknowledgements, and reconciliation workflows.

• Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams leveraging AWS services (e.g., EC2, ECS/EKS, S3, CloudWatch) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, ArgoCD) to ensure high availability and smooth deployments.

• Define and implement observability: structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerting (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Sentry, CloudWatch).

• Participate in on-call rotation: triage incidents, resolve production issues, and write clear postmortems.

• Ensure security and data privacy: authentication/authorization, encryption, secrets management, and audit logging (with healthcare/IoT considerations).

• Perform zero-downtime deployments and database migrations using safe rollout strategies.

• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code with strong unit and integration test coverage.

• Collaborate with frontend, mobile, firmware, and product teams to evolve device-to-cloud communication contracts.

• Maintain clear documentation (architecture diagrams, ADRs, runbooks) as the system scales.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience building and scaling production systems.

• Strong proficiency in Node.js with TypeScript, preferably with NestJS.

• Solid experience with MongoDB, including schema design, indexing, and performance optimization at scale.

• Proven experience designing and operating REST APIs in high-throughput environments.

• Hands-on experience with IoT systems or real-time data ingestion pipelines (MQTT, WebSockets, event-driven systems).

• Familiarity with AWS cloud ecosystem and modern deployment practices.

• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, ArgoCD, Git-based workflows).

• Strong understanding of observability and debugging production systems.

• Experience working with uptime SLAs and handling production incidents.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a distributed team.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience in healthcare, elderly care, or IoT-based monitoring systems.

• Familiarity with compliance standards (HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.).

• Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SNS/SQS).

• GraphQL experience.

• Experience building high-throughput microservices.

• Exposure to time-series data handling patterns.

What Success Looks Like

First 15 days

• Fully onboarded on the codebase, architecture, and data flow.

• Shipped at least one production-ready PR.

• Identified key performance and reliability bottlenecks.

First 30 days

• Owns a core service (e.g., ingestion pipeline or alert system).

• Improved observability (logs, metrics, alerts).

• Actively contributing to CI/CD and deployment improvements.

First 60 days

• Delivered stable, scalable improvements to ingestion or integration systems.

• Contributed to achieving or defining a clear path toward 99.99% uptime.

• Acts as a key technical voice in backend architecture decisions.

Logistics

• Location: Fully remote (Bangladesh-based preferred)

• Working hours: Overlap with Europe and US teams required
