∎ Age 20 to 45 years
∎ Minimum 3 (Three) Years of working Experience in I/NGOs with Humanitarian and Development Sectors.
∎ Mentally adaptable to work in FDMN camp in Cox's Bazar District.
∎ Good command of English, especially in analytical writing and speaking.
∎ Ability to demonstrate values, core purpose, and principles of humanitarian work.
∎ Ability to receive and provide feedback and updates to achieve improved results.
∎ Ability to work under pressure with Self-awareness, cultural sensitivity, respect for diversity, flexibility, and adaptability.
∎ Ability to make time to learn from experience and feedback, and apply the lessons to a new situation.
∎ Ability to document lessons learned and apply them to future projects.
∎ Experience in writing reports, concept notes, proposals, meeting minutes, data spreadsheets, and presentations.
∎ Good communication skills.
∎ Ability to cope with stress working in a remote island.
∎ Good command of Chitagonian and Bangla. English language skills are an asset.
∎ Flexibility to perform other tasks and take initiative when required.
Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Starting date of Job: December -2024·
∎ Reporting to: Clinic Manager.
∎ Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Psychologist will be responsible for the following main activities:
∎ Improving the beneficiaries’ mental health well-being and psychosocial condition.
∎ Supporting the Community Health workers by providing guidance and capacity building for activities.
∎ Implementation of on-the-job training of CHWs.
∎ Performing data collection and reports.
∎ Implement mental health & psychosocial activities in GK/MI health posts.
∎ Assess the beneficiary’s psychological condition by using psychological tools to detect vulnerable cases.
∎ Perform individual sessions for detected mental health cases and refer the severe cases according to the GK/MI referral pathway.
∎ Organize group sessions and support groups for the project beneficiaries.
∎ Use participatory methods to identify activity needs according to target groups, in order to facilitate the enrolment of adults and children in \HP activities.
∎ When needed, provide psychological consultations and conduct group discussion activities through home visits for the most vulnerable cases.
∎ Support CHWs to identify beneficiaries with vulnerabilities and to properly refer them to GK/MI, Health post.
∎ Support CHWs in the facilitation of outreach activities for beneficiaries at the community level when needed.
∎ Identify training needs for GK/MI, and health post staff and contribute to training sessions in collaboration with the Clinic Manager.
∎ Train CHWs of GK/MI health post on psychological first aid.
∎ Sensitize medical & paramedics staff of GK/MI HP and health post to psychological and psychosocial issues.
∎ Produce timely activity reports, including both quantitative and qualitative information on psychological activities.
∎ Prepare weekly activities report to submit to the Medical Coordinator
∎ Participate in a proactive way in different meetings.
∎ It’s a project-based job and the duration depends on approved FD7/FD6 and the availability of funds.
∎ BACKGROUND OF GONOSHASTHAYA KENDRA AND THE PROJECT:
∎ Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) is a National NGO. GK registered as a Public Charitable Trust in 1972 and started with two visions (a) “the fate of the poor decides fate of the country, and (b) “development of the country depends on development of women.”
∎ GK has been active in responding to all significant natural disasters in Bangladesh since 1972 through the mobilization of its own and foreign resources. GK provided food aid, lifesaving medicine and treatments in its operational Upazila during flood of 1987, 1988, 2000, Tornado: 1989, Cyclone and tidal surge: 1985 1991, 1994, Cyclone SIDR 2007, Cyclone AILA 2009 in its operational areas.
∎ GK has experienced partnership with several UN agencies, INGOs, such as UNDP, UNHCR, WFP, WHO, World Bank, European Union, UNHCR, Christian Aid, Action Aid, We Social Movement, French Support Committee, Save the Children, Plan Bangladesh, Medico International and many others.
∎ GK is managing 43 health centers in 19 districts, two hospitals of 250 beds, the largest dialysis center in Bangladesh where 100 people could be treated simultaneously. GK is running one University, Medical College, Dental College, Medical Technical School, Pharmaceutical Industry and a Vocational training school providing short, long and customized courses for distressed women. GK has awarded numerous national and international awards for its work on health and disaster response.
∎ Gonoshasthaya Kendra Bangladesh and its partner Malteser International are two humanitarian organizations in Bangladesh that have been working on emergency programs since September 2017, post-emergency and development. GK is currently implementing a project funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and Malteser International (MI) of “Improving the health and nutritional situation of refugees in Cox's Bazaar and contributing to the peaceful coexistence of refugee and host communities”. The goal of this project is to improve the health, nutrition, and psychosocial status of refugees while assisting host communities through health education in community level.
