Job Context:
∎ Bangladesh, the delta, faces several resilience challenges and suffers from hazards. Climate change adds a new dimension to the frequency and severity of hazards like catastrophic floods. Different initiatives have been working to build resilience among the affected communities for reducing shocks and impacts. But those are not providing complete solutions against catastrophic disasters. Owing to the cumulative economic burden of the affected communities has negatively impacting to their lives and livelihoods and the risks associated with climate are increasing day by day.
∎ Transferring risks to third parties like insurance companies may help to protect individuals from the loss of income, assets, livelihoods and facilitating economic growth after catastrophic disasters. The Climate Risk Insurance -Innovation to Enhance Resilience is a pilot project implementing by CNRS partnership with Oxfam in Bangladesh in Kurigram District, situated in Brahmaputra and Teesta rivers` floodplain is one of the disaster-prone hotspots of Bangladesh. The project aims to develop parametric insurance products aligning with the WFP program policy to bring financial security for the targeted poor`s and vulnerable community members from the potential losses from catastrophic disasters triggered by climate change. These products will complement the other actions taken by WFP to support these communities. The `Project Officer` position will be for the Center for Natural Resource Studies (CNRS) to carry forward the project activities.
∎ LENGTH OF SERVICE : Project period (Initially up to March 2022), the tenure will annually be renewed until the project ends depending on the performance of the staff and the availability of project fund.
∎ JOB LOCATION : Kurigram at Upazila Level or any other places of Bangladesh with extensive field visits to the community level.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Understanding of national and international policies and practices related with climate finance;
∎ Assisting to develop replicable models of climate finance through analysis of climate and hydrological data
∎ Capacity strengthening of climate vulnerable communities to claim a justified compensation and support system to cover climate change or hydrological hazard induced loss and damage
∎ Engage key stakeholders of climate finance (government, private sector, civil society, community, youth and women leaders) from grassroots to national level;
∎ Stakeholder mapping, intelligence and strategic influencing;
∎ Arranging workshops, campaigns, social media activities for stakeholder engagement;
∎ Keeping track of stakeholder feedback and communicating to managers;
∎ Work closely with stakeholders to organize campaigns on issues related with inclusion of rights of the marginalized in climate finance with focus on micro and meso level disaster insurances;
∎ Research, reporting and documentation of project outcomes;
∎ Human interest stories collection and dissemination;
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at most 40 years
∎ 1-year relevant work experiences
∎ Good understanding of Global and Bangladesh context of climate finance;
∎ Excellent writing capacity in English and Bangla;
∎ Skills in MS Office,
∎ Excellent presentation skills and Strong interpersonal skills;
∎ Relevant working experience in the field of climate finance;
∎ Experience of voluntary social work or working with voluntary organizations.
∎ Experience of facilitating trainings, workshops and other forms of capacity building activities
∎ Strong commitment to the rights of the most marginal communities
∎ Strong commitment to the values of accountability, inclusiveness and empowerment
∎ Strong commitment towards gender inclusion and child rights in specific
