Job Summary:
CARE is one of the world`s leading international humanitarian and development organizations, committed to helping people in poor communities improve their lives and alleviate poverty. Founded in 1945, CARE is working with over 121 countries to fight global poverty and marginalization. CARE has been active in Bangladesh since 1949 and is one of the largest programs in the CARE confederation. Women and girls are at the core of all CARE programs because they represent half of the marginalized group, and it is not possible to overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities. CARE Bangladesh works to implement programs with long-term impacts that result in sustainable changes for the extremely poor and marginalized communities.
CARE Bangladesh’s Humanitarian and Climate Action Program is committed to providing people affected by disasters and conflicts with life-saving assistance, with a special focus on women and girls, who are disproportionately affected by disasters. Our action also includes preparedness and early action, emergency response and recovery, and resilience and adaptation to climate change and equitable development.
CARE Bangladesh is implementing the Danish International Development Agency-DANIDA’s “Community Led Innovation for Climate Risk Mitigation in Bangladesh – CLIMB”, a 4-year program, in the southwest and southeast coastal region of Bangladesh. The Southwest program aims to strengthen the adaptive capacity and climate resilience of vulnerable groups impacted by climate-induced saline intrusion in the southwestern coastal district of Bagerhat, a major hub of the world’s largest mangrove forest - the Sundarbans. The overall ambition is to increase the resilience and adaptive capacity of communities supported by locally led green, just, and nature-based solutions (NBS) and an accountable service mechanism. The southeast program seeks to strengthen climate resilience and decrease conflict risks among Rohingya refugees and host communities by scaling NBS in Cox’s Bazar district, the home of the world’s longest beach highly exposed to climatic hazards. It aims to increase climate resilience and decrease conflict risks among refugees and host communities through humanitarian innovations towards reducing reliance on timber. The DANIDA’s CLIMB- Southwest will directly benefit around 4,000 people or 1000 households in Bagerhat, but the program develops solutions relevant and scalable across delta communities in Bangladesh. The impact group covers two unions, Rayenda and Southkhali, of the Sarankhola sub-district of Bagerhat district, with a combined population of around 60,000 people. DANIDA’s CLIMB- -Southeast will impact the living conditions of 4,000 individuals in Ukhiya and Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar including Rohingya Camps. Both the southwest and southeast CLIMB programs focus on two long-term outcome areas I) Resilient and climate-smart communities, and II) Green and just policies and systems. The Project Officer (PO) will be responsible for improving program quality in Ukhiya and Teknaf Upazila through M&E tasks, reporting, market linkages, etc. S/he will assist the Program Manager and Senior Humanitarian Innovation officer in project scaling/sustainability planning and implementations including administration, stakeholders mapping, monitoring tasks, and reporting of the project.
