Job Context:
∎ About Terre des hommes:
∎ Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh) is the leading Swiss INGO focusing on child rights. It is active in more than 30 countries with development and emergency projects. Tdh interventions are focused on the three programs: Health, Migration and Access to Justice particularly for vulnerable children. Tdh Foundation has a transversal approach towards Child Protection programming and it cuts across all the thematic areas while also has been considered as one of the key value propositions in its business model. The Child Protection expertise within Tdh Foundation aims to develop high quality, evidence-based knowledge and know-how adapted to fragile contexts, conflict zones, and development to improve the protection of children`s rights and their right to protection from all forms of violence (art 19, 34 CRC) in collaboration with and in support of the three core programs. The Tdh Foundation global strategy 2021-2024 specifies that the will have demonstrated that rights-based participation, empowerment, and active involvement of children and communities in defining and implementing responses are essential to improve child protection.
∎ Context:
∎ Tdh is working in Bangladesh since 1974, with operations in Kurigram district, Dhaka district and Cox Bazaar district. Currently, Tdh is implementing programs on Health, Access to Justice (social cohesion and conflict resolution) and Migration, integrated by the transversal expertise WASH and Child protection. Tdh interventions in Bangladesh are both in development and emergency context.
∎ Following the massive displacement of more than 800,000 people into Bangladesh since the end of August 2017, Tdh has put in place an important emergency response plan to provide relief to the Rohingya refugees, notably on Health, WASH, Child Protection and Social cohesion. Alongside, Tdh is implementing the CLARISSA project in Dhaka slums aiming to build a strong evidence base and generate innovative solutions to the worst forms of child labour (WFCL) and will explore how to take these solutions to scale.
∎ Tdh in Bangladesh has started the process of integration of emergency and development approaches and aims to capitalize its institutional learning for further programme expansion and to create critical pathways for evidence-based advocacy.
∎ PURPOSE OF POST:
∎ Treat under 5 children requiring in-patient facility
∎ Oversee triage and admittance of children with febrile illness or with other symptoms
∎ Oversee activities of IYCF and ensure that good nutritional support is being provided
∎ Diagnose patients requiring immediate referral services and provide proper referral notification
∎ Administrative management includes reporting of all pediatric treatment, preventive action, and communication under the PHC

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Ensuring the quality of triage
∎ Making sure the most severe cases are seen as a priority
∎ Regularly reviewing waiting for patients in order to detect emergencies
∎ Examining newly admitted patients:
∎ Systematically checking measles vaccination status in children aged from 9 months to 5 years old (or 15 years old depending on the context) and from 6 months old during epidemic periods
∎ Asking all questions relating to complaints (start of the problems, symptoms, intensity of the pain, etc.) and undertaking a systematic examination of all patients
∎ Measuring the vital parameters of all patients: temperature, heart and respiratory rates, blood pressure etc.
∎ Registering the main elements of osculation on surveillance forms, along with the dates and times of patient arrivals
∎ Undertaking complementary examinations if necessary
∎ Diagnosing the syndromes of the following pathologies or conditions:
∎ Uncomplicated malaria and isolated fever presumed malarial -Pneumonia without signs of severity -Gastritis, Uncomplicated diarrhoea -Stomatitis/oral candidiasis -Sexually transmittable disease (STD), Bloody diarrhoea -Conjunctivitis -Scabies, tinea, lice, Moderate dehydration -High and low urinary infection -Worms, Ear infection, throat infection, rhinitis -Moderate anaemia -Chickenpox, Bronchitis -Avitaminosis A -Gynaecological problems, Skin problems -ENT problems -Digestive problems, Neurological problems -Respiratory problems -Urinary problems
∎ Treating pathological conditions from the list above, following the PHC guidelines
∎ Prescribing whole treatments according to the pathologies diagnosed
∎ Explaining (in collaboration with the pharmacy manager) the treatment to patients and the importance of following them correctly
∎ Advising patients on basic hygiene measures and on what to do if the symptoms become worse
∎ Treating non-complicated wounds and first-degree burns.
∎ Specialise in providing medical care for children from birth to early adulthood
∎ Act as an educational and information resource for the medical team with respect to paediatric patients
∎ Advise and collaborate with parents to educate them about children's health
∎ Focus on nutritional needs of paediatric patients, providing support for IYCF
∎ Assess children for MAM and SAM, referring to appropriate local actors as necessary
∎ Prescribe necessary vaccinations as per national vaccination schedule
∎ Recognising and referring patients with conditions falling beyond the capacity of the PHC
∎ To the referral doctor for all cases requiring a medical/surgical opinion
∎ To the reference hospital for cases requiring emergency hospitalisation
∎ To the nutrition centre (if one exists) for children presenting signs of severe malnutrition
∎ Filling out consultation forms, the register and epidemiological information correctly
∎ Registering the main elements and the diagnoses
∎ Making clear notes on medical prescriptions
∎ Ticking off the epidemiological form, distinguishing new cases from the old and choosing the most important diagnostic
∎ Informing the referral doctor of all abnormal increases of anyone pathology
∎ Other tasks
∎ Overseeing the rational use of medicines
∎ Participating in the management of the health care team
∎ Participating in team meetings
∎ Collecting epidemiological data on a weekly/monthly basis
∎ Pointing out all dysfunctions in the organisation of care to the supervisor or referral doctor
∎ Accept other responsibilities as assigned by the Line Manager

Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at least 24 years
