Responsibilities & Context:

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the operation theatre before scheduled Surgery.

  • Prepare patient for procedure/surgery.

  • Ensure the OT is clean, disinfected, organized, and ready for surgery

  • Assist surgeon during surgery.

  • Prepare surgical sets according to the type of procedure

  • Check availability and functionality of surgical instruments, equipment, consumables, PPE, and emergency supplies. Ensure availability of sterile instruments, gowns, gloves, drapes, and other required materials.

  • Carry out Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) for patients during health sessions.

  • Managing the OT stock and logistics and timely reporting.

  • Maintain daily departmental quality checklist.

  • Prepare surgical patient list for secondary health camp

Activities:

  • Ensure the OT is clean, disinfected, organized, and ready for surgery

  • Assist surgeon during surgery.

  • Prepare surgical sets according to the type of procedure

  • Check availability and functionality of surgical instruments, equipment, consumables, PPE, and emergency supplies. Ensure availability of sterile instruments, gowns, gloves, drapes, and other required materials.

  • Carry out Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) for patients during health sessions.

  • Prepare surgical patient list for secondary health camp.

  • Assist the surgeon, medical officer, nurse, and other OT team members during surgical procedures.

  • Maintain aseptic technique and support infection prevention practices throughout the procedure.

  • Assist with positioning and preparation of patients as instructed.

  • Assist with specimen handling, labeling, and safe transfer where applicable.

  • Maintain awareness of the surgical count of instruments, needles, gauze, and other materials in coordination with the OT team.

  • Support emergency procedures and resuscitation activities as instructed

  • Counsel patient and patient attendant regarding surgical procedure.

  • Take consent in consent form from the patient.

  • Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.

  • Perform regular dressing of post-operative patients and other patients who undergone any procedure/surgery.

  • Operate and maintain the autoclave/sterilization equipment as trained as daily basis and maintain logbook of sterilization.

  • Maintain sterilization records, including cycle details and indicator.

  • Ensure proper segregation and disposal of medical and surgical waste.

  • Assist with safe transfer of patients from the OT after surgery.

  • Clean and disinfect the OT, operating table, instruments, and other surfaces after each procedure.

  • Replenish surgical supplies and prepare the OT for the next procedure.

  • Ensure used instruments are properly transferred for cleaning and sterilization.

  • Maintain proper disposal of sharps and other medical waste.

  • Maintain OT registers, surgical procedure records, sterilization logs, instrument registers, and other assigned documentation.

  • Record daily OT activities and consumption of surgical supplies.

  • Support preparation of periodic OT activity reports.

  • Help to prepare OT requisition for secondary medical camps, regular surgery and procedure.

  • Support in providing health camp medicines requisition during secondary camps.

  • Ensure daily quality checklist with assets status (functional or not) – Daily.

  • Prepare monthly report of OT activities and stock balance of OT medicine, expiry date of medicine and near expiry medicine list.

  • Adhere to the safeguarding and organizational policy and code of conduct.

  • Any work assigned by the supervisor.

Educational Qualification:

  • Diploma in Medical Faculty (DMF) from MATS with valid BMDC registration/ Diploma in Medical Technology (major in OT Assistant) from Institute of Health Technology.
