Job Context:
∎ Optometrist is responsible for
∎ Perform triage and admittance of eye care patients
∎ Diagnosing patients
∎ Treating patients and if necessary refer them to higher eye care services
∎ Administration and statistics

Job Responsibilities:
∎ The primary responsibilities will be to provide eye care services to outpatient department of two primary health care center in Rohingya Camps. The candidate will have a strong background in ophthalmology both through education and work experience. The focus of the role is to examine eyes to assess and diagnose ocular diseases and disorders. Prescribe and suggest for eyeglasses and lenses and recommend treatments such as exercises to correct vision problems or ocular disorders.
∎ Examine patients' eyes, conduct tests, and use ophthalmoscopes, retinoscope and other specialized instruments to determine ocular health and visual efficiency.
∎ Prescribe and provide treatment (excluding surgery) to maintain, improve and correct vision and manage other ocular diseases and disorders.
∎ Prescribe, suggest eye glasses, lenses and other visual aids after checking by visual trial box.
∎ Educate, counsel, and advise patients on eye glasses/ contact lens use and care, ocular hygiene, surgical and non-surgical options, and preventive care and maintenance related to occupation and lifestyle.
∎ Refer patients to other physicians and surgeons for treatment of ocular diseases or conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration and systemic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
∎ Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgeries such as laser vision correction.
∎ Support Electronic Medical Records data entry and rational use of drugs.
∎ Assess and investigate patients' issues using a variety of techniques, including systemic examinations, and following standard SOP for eye care.
∎ Diagnose patients’ conditions and develop treatment plans to improve or cure their conditions. Prescribe medication where required. Monitor patients' progress and note any significant changes, including improvement or deterioration.
∎ Educate patients on proper care and maintenance of their condition and proper ocular hygiene regimens when needed. Regularly attend conferences, workshops, and other medical lectures to ensure you maintain a good standard of knowledge and best practices.
∎ Demonstrated ability to investigate and diagnose various eye complaints.
∎ Ensure routine record keeping and reporting as per set standards.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Age at least 24 years

∎ Health, Hospital management, INGO, Medicine, public health
∎ At minimum medical doctor profile, preferably with technical specialisation on eye care
∎ A minimum of 2 years post registration (clinical) work experience on eye care in PHC settings
∎ Ability to cope with stress
∎ Ability to work well as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
∎ Ability to organise and prioritise workload, using initiative when appropriate
∎ Able to work independently
∎ Good communicator
∎ Good organisational skills
