Based in any Comprehensive DIC in Dhaka.      

Frequent travel to field sites and project-supported CDICs/ OST center.

Responsibilities & Context:

The Lab Technician under the Global Funded PUD GC7 Project plays a vital role in delivering quality laboratory services for People Who Inject Drugs (PWID) through accurate testing, reporting, and coordination. Based primarily at a Comprehensive Drop-in Center (C-DIC), the technician will perform HIV, STI, COVID, CD4, and other relevant diagnostic tests according to national and WHO-approved guidelines. The position is responsible for proper sample handling, test documentation, maintaining privacy and confidentiality, and supporting follow-up testing and treatment coordination. S/he must ensure infection prevention practices, lab safety compliance, and active communication with medical and counseling teams for integrated client care. This role also involves maintaining lab registers, preparing periodic reports, and ensuring readiness for field-based mobile van outreach testing.

 

However, the specific roles and responsibilities of Medical Technologist are described in the following:

  • Perform HIV, COVID, CD4 count, and other laboratory tests using standardized procedures and national/WHO guidelines to ensure diagnostic accuracy.
  • Maintain laboratory safety and infection prevention by strictly following universal precautions, biosafety protocols, and IPC guidelines during all stages of service delivery.
  • Collect and label blood and biological samples with proper client coding to ensure accurate identification and traceability in both documentation and reporting.
  • Support viral load sample collection and transportation to designated reference labs in coordination with project protocol and quality assurance mechanisms.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all test results including client code, date, signature, and entry in lab registers, ensuring alignment with central database records.
  • Provide test results to designated staff (e.g., physician or counselor) through proper written formats for prompt treatment and care decision-making.
  • Maintain up-to-date lab forms, registers, and reports and archive all data and documents as per project standards and audit requirements.
  • Prepare and submit monthly laboratory reports on testing volume, positivity rates, sample transport, and equipment status to relevant supervisors.
  • Recall clients who require repeat or follow-up testing based on lab findings or as advised by clinical/counseling staff.
  • Maintain strict client confidentiality in all laboratory procedures, ensuring secure handling of sensitive health information.
  • Attend assigned service centers punctually and maintain attendance registers as per organizational rules and project duty roster.
  • Support delivery service in mobile vans or satellite clinics by conducting outreach testing sessions in field locations when needed.
  • Ensure availability and proper use of lab-related manuals and guidelines at service delivery points for standardization and quality improvement.
  • Participate in coordination meetings, workshops, and trainings related to lab operations, diagnostics, and PWID-focused treatment and care services.
  • Collaborate effectively with clinical and outreach teams to support comprehensive care delivery, including timely test referral and case follow-up.
  • Willing to work at mobile van.
