Experience:

• At least 2 years

• Diploma in Medical Technology in Lab

• At least 2 years

• Age 22 to 40 years

• Ability to communicate in the Rohingya language (spoken Chittagong dialect).

• Working Experience in the Rohingya context will add an extra advantage.

• Cultural awareness/sensitivity and empathy to the target population.

• Awareness and observation of universal medical ethics.

Mission context

GK was created in 1972 with two visions. Firstly, “the fate of the poor decides fate of the country”. Secondly, “development of the country depends on development of women”. Since 2017, Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) and UNHCR have entered in a partnership to respond to the Rohingya crisis in Cox Bazar & Bhasanchar.

Job Location: Ukhia (Cox’s Bazar) and Bhasanchar (Hatiya)

Job Context:

The laboratory technologist will be responsible for all activities at the assigned laboratory in the Rohingya Refugee camps. The job holder must carry out their roles and responsibilities to provide quality laboratory services through updated knowledge and techniques.

Job Responsibilities:

• Participate in quality assurance planning of the laboratory

• Plan and prepare annual and quarterly logistics requirements for the laboratory

• Support preparing quality assurance tools and guidelines in line with the national guidelines.

• Support higher management in decision-making.

• Maintain essential safety measures for infection control in the laboratory

• Maintain optimum standards in smearing and microscopy following the SOP and guidelines

• Ensure maintenance of the microscope and other laboratory equipment as per the SOP and guidelines

• Ensure availability of anti-TB drugs, reagents, and other logistics at the laboratory

• Refer presumptive and complicated cases to designated facilities for further diagnosis

• Support in EQA and slide rechecking.

• Ensure hygienic disposal of waste materials

• Maintain a contact tracing register for active case findings and refer presumptive cases to the nearby diagnostic facility

• Assist govt. MT (Lab.) at the UHC lab, whenever necessary

• Any other job as required by the project.

• Maintain regular coordination with related stakeholders;

• Record results in respective forms and register and report promptly to the requesting staff;

• Ensure complete and accurate monthly and quarterly reporting as per the guidelines.

Special Note:

• Carry out any additional assignment per her/his position entrusted with the GK Management from time to time and mutually agreed upon

• Management may, at any point in time, modify this job description as it is deemed necessary in Gonoshasthaya Kendra’s interests in consultation with the incumbent   

• Due to the emergency response nature of GK`s work, hours of work may vary, and employees should be flexible in approaching hours of work in emergency conditions     

• The employee must respect the timetable, terms, and conditions of Gonoshasthaya Kendra and should always be available to respond to an emergency
