• Completion of secondary school education is mandatory. A Bachelor's de-gree from a UGC recognized university is preferred. Knowledge or back-ground in health, medical, or public health fields is desirable.
• Previous experience as a Medical Interpreter is preferred (at least 6month). Experience working in a hospital, clinic, healthcare facility, or humanitarian health program is desirable.
• Essential : English and Bangla Language
• Desirable : Chittagongian Dialect.
• Ability to accurately interpret and translate spoken communication between patients and healthcare providers is mandatory. Fluency in English and the Chittagonian dialect is essential. Proven knowledge of medical terminology in both languages is desirable.
• Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) or Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI) certification is preferred. Formal training in medical interpretation or healthcare communication is desirable.
• Essential computer literacy (word, excel, PowerPoint and internet).
• Inform medical staff about important cultural nuances to consider during a meeting, medical consultation, or interview with local people.
• Participate in staff trainings and meetings as an interpreter.
• Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.
• Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.
• Translate MSF internal / external documents into local language(s).
• Ensure translations are culturally appropriate and easy to understand.
• Keep record of all translated documents.
• Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF
• Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy.
• Provide accurate interpretation and translation services for female patients attending Maternity (BEmONC) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services, including Antenatal Care (ANC), Postnatal Care (PNC), Family Planning (FP), Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), and Mental Health consultations.
• Facilitate clear, accurate, and culturally sensitive communication between patients and healthcare providers during consultations, examinations, procedures, counseling sessions, and treatments.
• Serve as a cultural and linguistic liaison to promote mutual understanding between patients and medical staff, particularly in sensitive SRH, SGBV, and Mental Health settings.
• Ensure messages are conveyed accurately in terms of content, context, and tone while maintaining neutrality and professionalism
• Speak and interpret fluently between the local dialect and the dialect used by the Rohingya population.
• Support patients in understanding medical information, treatment plans, procedures, instructions, and available healthcare services.
• Collaborate effectively with the medical team to ensure quality patient care and efficient management of patient flow.
• Document and report any interpretation-related issues or concerns to the supervisor when required.
• Demonstrate flexibility by working in different areas of the facility and adapting to emergency situations, outbreaks, or increased workload as requested by the manager.
• Promote patient dignity, confidentiality, safeguarding, and equitable access to healthcare services at all times.
• Adhere to MSF confidentiality protocols, medical secrecy requirements, and ethical standards in all interpretation and translation activities
This is Permanent Position. Salary according to level Three (Level 3) of the internal MSF salary grid (BDT 45000 Gross). Salary is not negotiable. Income tax deduction from salary based on current income tax rule. 2 annual leave days per month worked. Medical insurance for employee and direct dependents based on Health Care Policy- Locally Recruited Staff.
There is no provisions for relocation. 2 Festival Bonuses after completion of one year of uninterrupted continuous service.
