Responsibilities & Context: Role Context:
The Mechanical Engineer (Fire Protection) is responsible for designing, reviewing, and supervising Fire Fighting and Fire Protection systems for building and industrial projects. The role ensures compliance with safety regulations, NFPA standards, and local authority requirements to protect life and property.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Fire Protection System Design
- Prepare system designs, hydraulic calculations, and equipment sizing.
- Develop fire protection layouts (Sprinklers, Standpipes, Fire Pumps, Fire Hose Reels, Foam/CO₂ Systems).
- Select suitable equipment based on project requirements and NFPA standards.
- Project Execution & Site Supervision
- Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of fire protection systems.
- Inspect contractor work to confirm compliance with approved drawings and safety codes.
- Coordinate with other MEP disciplines to avoid design conflicts.
- Technical Review and Documentation
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements.
- Prepare BOQs, technical specifications, reports, and as-built drawings.
- Verify compliance with NFPA, Civil Defense requirements, and client specifications.
- Testing, Commissioning & Quality Assurance
- Perform pressure tests, pump performance tests, and system function tests.
- Ensure systems achieve full operational readiness and handover requirements.
- Conduct site audits to verify safety and quality standards.
- Regulatory and Authority Liaison
- Coordinate with statutory bodies such as Civil Defense for inspections and approvals.
- Ensure timely submission and clearance of documents for project approvals.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting Support
- Provide guidance for preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Diagnose and resolve system faults to ensure operational reliability.
