Responsibilities & Context: Job Title: Electrical Engineer (Heavy Industry)
Role Context:
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for planning, installing, operating, and maintaining electrical systems used in heavy industrial environments such as manufacturing plants, steel mills, power plants, refineries, or large-scale production facilities. The role ensures continuous, safe, and efficient electrical operations while minimizing downtime and meeting industrial safety and regulatory standards.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Electrical System Design & Implementation
- Design and review electrical systems for industrial equipment and plant utilities.
- Prepare single-line diagrams, load calculations, cable schedules, and equipment specifications.
- Select and size motors, transformers, MCC panels, switchgear, VFDs, and control systems.
- Operation, Supervision & Maintenance
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance for motors, panels, generators, and power systems.
- Respond to plant breakdowns and coordinate timely repairs to reduce downtime.
- Power Distribution & Control Systems
- Manage medium and low-voltage distribution systems.
- Ensure safe operation and synchronization of generators, UPS, and backup power systems.
- Configure and maintain PLC, SCADA, and automation control systems (if applicable).
- Project Management & Coordination
- Supervise electrical installation activities at the plant or construction site.
- Coordinate with mechanical, civil, and production teams to support project execution.
- Review and approve contractor drawings, material submittals, and work methods.
- Safety, Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with industrial safety standards and electrical codes (IEC, NEC, OSHA).
- Conduct risk assessments and enforce lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain maintenance logs, inspection reports, test data, and equipment history records.
- Testing, Inspection & Quality Control
- Perform testing and commissioning of new electrical systems and machinery.
- Inspect electrical equipment performance and efficiency.
- Identify root causes of electrical failures and recommend improvements.
