Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Supervising the inventory levels of raw materials, components, and finished goods to ensure optimal levels are maintained to support production schedules while minimizing carrying costs and stock outs.
∎ Collaborating with other departments such as production, procurement, and sales to forecast material needs accurately. Developing and implementing plans to meet these needs efficiently.
∎ Managing the procurement process, which includes sourcing suppliers, negotiating contracts, placing purchase orders, and ensuring timely delivery of materials.
∎ Ensuring that all incoming materials meet quality standards and specifications. Implementing quality control processes and procedures to identify and address any issues with materials promptly.
∎ Overseeing the organization and layout of the warehouse to optimize space utilization and streamline material handling processes. Implementing safety measures and protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
∎ Building and maintaining relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent supply of materials at competitive prices. Addressing any issues or concerns that may arise with suppliers in a timely manner.
∎ Monitoring material costs and identifying opportunities for cost savings through initiatives such as bulk purchasing, inventory optimization, and supplier negotiations.
∎ Maintaining accurate records of inventory levels, material transactions, and procurement activities. Generating reports and analyses to track key performance indicators and identify areas for improvement.
∎ Leading and supervising a team of material control specialists or inventory clerks. Providing guidance, training, and support to ensure the team performs effectively and efficiently.
∎ Identifying inefficiencies or areas for improvement in material control processes and implementing changes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
∎ Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards governing materials management, such as environmental regulations, import/export laws, and industry-specific requirements.
∎ Collaborating with other departments such as production, logistics, finance, and quality assurance to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of material control activities with overall business objectives.
∎ Participating in strategic planning activities to align material control strategies with the long-term goals and objectives of the organization.
