Additional Requirements: Responsibilities & Context: - Lead and manage fabric development from fiber/yarn stage to finished fabric in coordination with knitting, dyeing, finishing, and garmenting teams.
- Approve fabric specifications (GSM, construction, composition, shrinkage, dimensional stability, fastness, handle, etc.) before production.
- Supervise bulk fabric quality – shade, shrinkage, spirality, pilling, appearance, and finishing performance.
- Liaise with buyers/merchandisers for lab dips, strike-offs, handlooms, and sample approvals.
- Coordinate closely with the dyeing and finishing departments to ensure correct recipe, processing parameters, and quality consistency.
- Troubleshoot technical issues in knitting (yarn faults, barre, GSM variation), dyeing (shade variation, migration, fastness), and finishing (hand feel, shrinkage).
- Implement fabric testing and approval system in line with buyer standards (AATCC, ISO, ASTM).
- Work with procurement/yarn sourcing to ensure correct raw materials for required fabric quality.
- Guide and monitor in-house testing lab and ensure timely submission of test reports to buyers.
- Maintain records of fabric test data, shade approvals, and bulk performance for audit and buyer visits.
- Lead fabric cost optimization initiatives through right material selection, process control, and wastage reduction.
- Develop new fabrics, sustainable finishes, and functional textiles (moisture management, anti-bacterial, recycled, organic).
- Ensure compliance with sustainability, environmental, and chemical standards (OEKO-TEX, GOTS, ZDHC, Higg).
- Train and guide junior fabric technologists, dyeing masters, and QA teams on technical know-how.
- Collaborate with production & merchandising teams to meet delivery deadlines without compromising quality.
