Job Context:
∎ The Legal Officer will provide legal assistance to individuals and communities with the objective to facilitate access to justice. The protection program works to provide assistance to men, women, boys and girls through protection monitoring, information sharing, legal assistance and protection mainstreaming, and works to reduce risks to their safety and well-being in accordance with international humanitarian principles of safety and dignity. The Legal Officer, will provide individual counselling to beneficiaries and advise on options to solve their particular legal problem. S/he follow up and provide support as needed throughout the legal process and will coordinate with WPE, CP and other NGOs as needed. In addition, the Legal Officer will liaise with the local authorities at camp and host community level and will build the necessary relationships that will allow for quality legal programming. In addition to managing individual caseloads, the legal officer will also manage the client`s information by keeping the data, updating it as required, contributing to regular evaluation of the client`s needs by managing care plans for them, ensuring the cases are monitored, and closing them. The Legal Officer will report to the Senior Protection Monitoring Officer and work closely with WPE and CP teams.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Provide individual legal support for protection cases in Ukhia and Teknaf camps in line with best practices and IRC's minimum standards
∎ Ensure the correct documentation and compilation of legal forms in accordance with all legal case management steps and related tools and procedures
∎ Identify legal gaps and provide legal counseling and information at individual and community level on access to rights and entitlements
∎ Provide support to individual cases and guidance at community level for women, girls, boys and men wishing to access registration centers or/and need support with marriage and birth certificates
∎ Organize and deliver capacity building initiatives for community leaders, block representatives, CIC, local authorities on the justice system, the national legislation and the access to justice process
∎ Participate and support the identification of protection cases and refer if needed
∎ Directly communicate effectively with other IRC staff and service providers in order to advocate, collaborate and make referrals according to the best interests of children
∎ Regularly attend protection meetings and relevant case conferences at field level
∎ In addition to the PROL team, collaborate closely with other members of the Child Protection team, ensuring smooth coordination and referrals
∎ Consistently and dedicatedly monitor/assess the safety and security promptly reporting concerns or incidents to IRC management and liaising with community leaders and other external parties as required to maintain/enhance the security environment for IRC programs
∎ Actively engage in all capacity building opportunities including formal training, on the job mentorship and peer to peer sessions
∎ Complete work plans with each client, including needs assessments and clients' satisfaction surveys
∎ Ensure that ethical and sound data collection and information management is implemented for appropriate data analysis and monitoring and evaluation activities
Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum 2 years of experience in legal work, counseling, case management, promotion of women's and/or family well-being, or other related field
∎ Strong understanding of humanitarian protection principles and standards
∎ Deep understanding of protection, working with case management and PSS programing
∎ Demonstrated experience with working with justice mechanisms including informal justice systems at camp level
∎ Demonstrated experience with liaising with government officials including courts, prosecutor, police, investigators etc.
∎ Demonstrated organizational, management and reporting skills
∎ Ability to understand and respond to contextual gender dynamics
∎ Ability to work well both within a team and independently; good communication skills
∎ Ability to work under pressure with competing priorities and deadlines
∎ Strong prioritization solving skills with ability to be flexible, adaptable, and creative in a challenging and dynamic multicultural environment
∎ Full professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
∎ Strong written communication skills in English and Bangla
∎ People who have proficiency in Chittagonian dialects will get preference
Salary: Tk. 48500 (Monthly)
