Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of medicine dispensing experience in clinic or hospital preferably in humanitarian setup.

  • Understanding of the government rules and regulations of dispensing, national and IRC EDL.

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power point

  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills

  • Dedications to humanitarian principles and values

  • Dedications to and understanding of IRC’s aims, values and principles

Language Preference

  • Candidates who are familiar with local dialects will get preference

Specific Educational Qualification

  • Minimum Bachelor of Pharmacy or Diploma in Pharmacy. Registration from Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh is mandatory.

Purpose of the Role

The Dispenser is a member of the IRC health team and will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the IRC’s healthcare activities in the assigned facility/area. The person will be responsible for dispensing medicines according to national dispensing guideline and IRC dispensing SOP to patients and ensure the implementation of medical stock recording, tracking, and management systems. The Dispenser will supervise the Pharmacy Assistant.

Reports To: Clinical Supervisor with Technical Reporting to Country Pharmacist

Contract Length: December 31, 2026 (with high possibility of extension)

Highlights of Key Responsibilities

  • Dispense medicines to all patients according to the doctor’s prescription and ensure that the prescription is align with drug indication.

  • Check all prescription for drug interactions, medicine duplication, polypharmacy, contra-indications, allergies, suspected misuse and abuse and reach to the prescriber for any incomplete prescription.

  • Provide counselling to patients regarding the proper usage and side effect of prescribed medications with clear instruction on drug dose, strength, frequency, dosage form and quantity in both written and verbally.

  • Ensure regular inventory and consumption tracking of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies are completed and weekly and monthly report are submitted to Country Pharmacist.

  • Ensure an updated inventory of all Controlled Drugs and keep these drugs in a locked cabinet.

  • Routinely monitor the expiry dates of medicines and ensure FIFO is always maintained.

  • Keep the pharmacy premises clean and store the medicine appropriately with up to date stock cards.

  • Organize the pharmacy in a structural way which is easy to dispense and ensure the optimum security of the premises.

  • Monitor and ensure optimum room temperatures and relative humidity are maintained and charting room temperatures regularly.

  • Prevent pilferage, physical damage, and contamination of drugs.

  • Ensure drug stock levels are notified to the line manager to avoid stock out.

  • Work with other health staffs to ensure clinic areas are appropriately stocked with essential equipment and supplies.

  • Work with relevant staff to ensure prompt requesting of medical drugs and supplies.

  • Supervise Pharmacy Assistant if necessary.

  • Maintain open and professional relationship with team members, promoting a strong team spirit, provide guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions.

  • Provide pharmaceutical support and mentorship to other facility staff, providing on-the-job training where necessary.

  • Willingness to serve mobile medical team in post-disaster if necessary.
