Job Context:
∎ The Lab Assistant is a member of the IRC Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) team and will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the IRCs Primary healthcare activities in the Rohingya Refugee Camp, Cox Bazar at IRC support PHCC. He/She will ensure the delivery of high quality laboratory service to ensure the proper diagnoses upon need. Whilst the MMT is not deployed, the team will contribute to improving the IRC`s existing health programs in the camps.
∎ Job Location: Camp-11, Ukhiya, Cox`s Bazar
∎ Contract Length: Till 31st August 2021 (with possibility of extension)
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Lead in planning, procurement and establishment of laboratory set up.
∎ Lead quality assurance planning and implementation of the laboratory services
∎ Plan and prepare annual and quarterly logistics requirements for the laboratory
∎ Support preparing quality assurance tools and guidelines in line with the national guidelines
∎ Support higher management in decision-making
∎ Maintain safety measures for infection prevention and control in the laboratory
∎ Maintain optimum standard in smearing and microscopy following the SOP and guidelines
∎ Ensure maintenance of microscopy and other laboratory equipment as per the SOP and guidelines
∎ Ensure quality investigation and report processing within the facility
∎ Refer presumptive and complicated cases to designated facilities for further diagnosis
∎ Support in EQA and slide-rechecking
∎ Ensure hygienic disposal of waste materials
∎ Maintain contact tracing register for active case findings and refer presumptive cases to nearby diagnostic facility
∎ Assist govt. MT (Lab.) at UHC lab whenever necessary
∎ Any other job as required by the project and support to other health facilities in term of lab services
∎ Maintain regular coordination with related stakeholders
∎ Periodic monitoring of the Laboratory (for EQA Technician)
∎ Check the randomized slides and provide the result as first controller (for EQA Technician)
∎ Record results in respective forms and registers and report promptly to the requesting staff
∎ Ensure complete and accurate monthly and quarterly reporting as per the guideline
∎ Ensure wards/clinic areas are appropriately stocked with essential equipment and supplies
∎ Ensure patient confidentiality is respected, and that all consultations are conducted in a dignified and respectful manner
Additional Requirements:
∎ At least 2 years of clinical experience in lab supervision.
∎ Ability and flexibility to understand the cultural and political environment and to work well with the local health representatives
∎ Skills to provide sensitive and appropriate medical counselling
∎ Excellent communication skills
∎ Required be team oriented with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure in a stressful environment, displaying patience, compassion and diplomacy
∎ Required to be able to and willing to assist with carrying patients on stretchers and carrying equipment
∎ Ability to be innovative, flexible, adaptive, and willingness to work in potentially dangerous and stressful environments
∎ Ability to live in challenging conditions and ability to work under difficult, high pressure situations
