Job Context:
∎ Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh) is the leading Swiss NGO focusing on child rights. It is active in more than 30 countries with development and emergency projects. Tdh focuses its action on the two following areas of intervention: health and protection of particularly vulnerable children. Modern management and communication tools ensure the quality of Tdh`s projects. The Foundation constantly aims to improve its services.
∎ Following the massive displacement of more than 688,000 people into Bangladesh since end of August 2017, Tdh has put in place an important emergency response plan to provide relief to the Rohingya refugees, notably on nutrition, health, WASH and protection.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Provide technical guidance on IYCF to support staff and other humanitarian actors as necessary to promote consistent good practice
∎ Supervise the Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) components of the nutrition
∎ Ensure the implementation of IYCF activities is conformed to national and international standards and International guidelines
∎ Provide guidance to IYCF counsellor for identification of mothers to become peer educators/ lead mothers within the community, and to support them to undertake sensitization and referral to the MIYCN Corner.
∎ Link between CMAM team and community outreach team (such as promoting excellent communication and referral between IYCF counselor, community outreach activities)
∎ Overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of project site activities and staff (such as IYCF activities in MIYCN corner, IYCF staff, lay counsellors and lead mothers, volunteers)
∎ Ensure all staff understand and implement program guidelines used for assessing the mother-child pair, advising the best feeding option and following up as appropriate;
∎ Ensure appropriate and consistent education messaging to mothers and other caregiver at all programming contact points and in the community
∎ Provide technical guidance to support Tdh OTP and community outreach staff to promote consistent good practices including breatfeeding counselling for mothers experiencing difficulties in breastfeeding (including demonstration and breastfeeding techniques and supporting re-lactation)
∎ Ensure the implementation and the good functioning of Mother to Mother Support Groups (MtMSG)
∎ Ensure a regular supervision of the different IYCF activities implement on the field (MtMSGs, IYCF counseling etc)
∎ Participation in implementing policy and practice changes as outlined in agreed guidelines
∎ Participate in the improvement of M&E tools and indicators
∎ Prepare daily, weekly and monthly statistical reports of IYCF with the help of IYCF counselor
∎ Facilitate the scheduling of outreach worker/volunteer for follow-up of caregiver of children with breastfeeding difficulties at home or any related IYCF difficulties at home
∎ Facilitate the development of monthly work plans for the MIYCN corner and the educational group session
∎ Compile monthly activity reports for the MIYCN corner as required
Additional Requirements:
∎ Both males and females are allowed to apply
∎ Must be fluent in English (speaking, reading & writing)
∎ Fluent in local languages - Chittagonian, Rohingya, etc. - will be an asset (ability to communicate with the Rohingya population)
∎ Work experience with other NGO's would be an asset
∎ Experience in individual/group counselling
∎ At least one or two year of experience in the implementation of Nutrition projects, preferably in humanitarian contexts
∎ Knowledge and skills
∎ Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point presentations, and Excel spreadsheets)
∎ Strong interpersonal skills & excellent team player
∎ Ability to manage a fair workload including emergencies
