The Innovation Unit has a portfolio of over 18 social ventures that promote Zero Hunger. Welthungerhilfe has been working in Bangladesh since 1975 through implementing partner. Since 2021, the first innovation venture Sobuje was started.
∎ Innovation Officer,
∎ Location: Dhaka Based with frequent field visit on various parts of Bangladesh
∎ Contract type: Contractual
∎ Duration: Up to March 2024, with a possibility of extension based on the availability of funds and performance.
∎ As part of the Global Welthungerhilfe Innovation Team, under the supervision of the country office program this position will be responsible for the piloting of "Sobuj-e", in collaboration with the partner "Potro". "Sobuj-e" is a Mobile Vertical Garden designed as a social enterprise that shall support urban and vulnerable communities in Bangladesh. It was the winning idea at WHH Innolab 2021. Sobujeallows people to grow nutritious food in a small space protecting the food source from the impact of climate change. Job Responsibilities:
∎ Collaborate with the Partner, WHH Bangladesh, and the Innovation Unit to refine and improve the Sobuj-e prototype based on user feedback and testing results
∎ Test and iterate the prototype of the Sobuj-e with target communities to optimize it for mass production and to meet the required quality standards and agricultural outputs.
∎ Responsible to lead the innovative product to a successful social business along pre-defined stages
∎ Collaborate with the partner and guide them based on arising issues, such as assessing different business models, marketing strategies, different partnerships and product development
∎ Conduct market research and analysis to assess the demand and potential of the MVG in different regions of Bangladesh.
∎ Fundraising to expand the implementation of Sobuj-e
∎ In case of external fundings, lead of monitoring, project implementation, budget monitoring and reporting
∎ Create chances of Collaboration with relevant stakeholders to identify and address user needs and market opportunities for SobuJe.
∎ Conduct surveys to monitor and evaluate the social, economic, and environmental impact of Sobuj-e and identify opportunities for further improvement and innovation.
∎ Prepare regular progress reports and presentations on Sobuj-e project for stakeholders, including the Partner, WHH Bangladesh, and potential funders
∎ Contribute to the development and improvement of other innovation unit products based on skills and expertise.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age 25 to 35 years
∎ Fluency in English & Bengali (both written and spoken)
∎ Innovative and ability to think out of the box
∎ Knowledge of business development, marketing, and mass community mobilization
∎ Able to use modern office communication tools
∎ Leadership and motivational attributes
∎ Excellent writing skills (esp. Proposal writing)
∎ Can be able to perform in a challenging environment (remote areas)
∎ Experiences working with an international team is an advantage
∎ Comfortable working with a remote team online
∎ Experiences with Design Thinking & Scrum are an advantage
∎ Previous working experience in innovation, business or NGO sector is an advantage
Compensation & Other Benefits:
∎ Salary scale SG 6 Entry Level (BDT 94,395.00/- per month) with other social benefits like, Festival bonus, PF and Gratuity.
