Responsibilities & Context:
Underwriting Leadership
Lead and supervise the underwriting department.
Develop underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Ensure consistency and quality in underwriting decisions.
Risk Assessment
Evaluate complex and high-value insurance risks.
Approve underwriting decisions within delegated authority.
Recommend reinsurance for risks beyond retention limits.
Portfolio Management
Monitor underwriting performance and portfolio profitability.
Analyze loss ratios, claim trends, and risk exposure.
Take corrective measures to improve underwriting results.
Business Development Support
Work closely with the marketing and sales teams.
Develop underwriting solutions for corporate clients.
Assist in designing new insurance products.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
Maintain proper underwriting documentation and records.
Support internal and external audits.
Claims Coordination
Coordinate with the claims department on complex claims.
Provide underwriting opinions on disputed or large-loss cases.
Reporting
Prepare monthly and quarterly underwriting reports.
Present portfolio analysis to senior management and the Board.
Continuous Improvement
Review underwriting manuals regularly.
Introduce digital underwriting tools and automation.
Monitor market trends and competitor practices.
