The General Manager – Industrial Engineering is responsible for driving productivity, efficiency, and cost optimization with 1500 machine run garment manufacturing factory by implementing advanced IE tools, improving production methods, and ensuring effective utilization of manpower and machines while maintaining quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Industrial Engineering & Productivity (Woven Focus)
Lead all IE activities for woven products (shirts, pants, jackets, outerwear).
Develop and control accurate SMV for woven operations including complex sewing, fusing, and finishing.
Conduct method study and work measurement to improve operator performance.
Implement effective line balancing for modular and straight line layouts.
Reduce bottlenecks in critical woven operations (collar, cuff, placket, waistband, pocket, sleeve).
Optimize machine utilization including specialized machines (buttonhole, bartack, fusing, auto machines).
2. Production Planning & Capacity Management
Prepare order-wise capacity planning considering fabric type, construction, and complexity.
Support pre-production feasibility analysis for woven styles.
Coordinate with PPC to ensure on-time delivery.
Validate manpower loading and line allocation plans.
3. Cost Control & Efficiency Improvement
Drive reduction in cost per piece through SMV improvement and productivity gains.
Monitor woven-specific KPIs:
Line efficiency
Output per operator
SMV vs actual performance
Machine utilization
Implement continuous improvement projects to reduce rework and idle time.
4. Layout, Method & Process Improvement
Design and improve sewing line layouts for woven styles.
Improve material flow from cutting to sewing and finishing.
Support new style line setup and pilot run optimization.
Implement Lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, VSM, and one-piece flow where applicable.
5. Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Coordination
Lead, mentor, and evaluate the IE team.
Work closely with Production, Quality, Merchandising, Cutting, Maintenance, and Compliance teams.
Support production managers in achieving efficiency and delivery targets.
6. Reporting & Management Communication
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly productivity and efficiency reports.
Present improvement plans and performance dashboards to top management.
Use data-driven insights for strategic decision-making.
7. Compliance, Safety & Best Practices
Ensure IE practices comply with buyer requirements, safety standards, and labor compliance.
Support buyer audits and factory visits related to productivity and capacity.
