• At least three years of professional experience in database administration or a closely related role.

• Demonstrated experience managing production databases and business-critical applications.

• Practical experience with Microsoft SQL Server is essential.

• Experience working with multiple relational and NoSQL database platforms is strongly preferred.

• Experience supporting large databases, multiple locations, financial systems, ERP systems, or microfinance applications will be an advantage.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

• Sound understanding of database security and data protection principles.

• Ability to respond effectively to critical database incidents.

• Good documentation and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with software developers, infrastructure teams, vendors, and management.

• Strong sense of responsibility, professional integrity, and confidentiality.

• Willingness to provide support outside regular working hours when necessary.

Christian Service Society (CSS), a national NGO, has been implementing various projects and programs throughout the country for the well-being of poor and disadvantaged communities. CSS is currently seeking an experienced and technically proficient “Database Administrator” to manage, secure, optimize, and maintain the organization’s database systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, integrity, security, backup, and disaster recovery of database environments. The position will involve working with multiple relational and NoSQL database platforms and supporting the organization’s business-critical applications and information systems.

Job Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, administer, upgrade, and maintain database servers and related tools.

• Manage Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and NoSQL databases.

• Monitor database performance, availability, storage, resource utilization, and overall system health.

• Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize queries, indexes, stored procedures, functions, views, and database configurations.

• Develop, implement, and maintain database backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures.

• Perform regular backup verification and database restoration tests.

• Ensure database security through appropriate access controls, user permissions, encryption, auditing, and other security best practices.

• Maintain database integrity, consistency, confidentiality, and availability.

• Configure and support replication, clustering, failover, high-availability, and disaster-recovery solutions, where required.

• Support database migration, consolidation, synchronization, version upgrades, and data transformation activities.

• Troubleshoot database-related errors, connectivity issues, blocking, deadlocks, data inconsistencies, and performance problems.

• Work closely with software developers to review database designs, queries, stored procedures, and application performance.

• Support reporting, data analysis, data integration, and large-volume data-processing requirements.

• Automate routine database administration, monitoring, backup, and maintenance tasks.

• Maintain database inventories, architecture diagrams, configuration records, operational procedures, and technical documentation.

• Monitor database licenses and ensure compliance with applicable licensing requirements.

• Assist with database capacity planning and recommend appropriate infrastructure improvements.

• Provide technical support during critical incidents and participate in scheduled maintenance activities.

• Comply with CSS information security policies and maintain the confidentiality and security of organizational and beneficiary data.

Required Technical Skills:

• Microsoft SQL Server administration, performance tuning, backup, restoration, replication, and high availability.

• MySQL database administration.

• PostgreSQL database administration.

• Oracle Database administration.

• NoSQL database technologies, preferably MongoDB or similar platforms.

• Advanced SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, triggers, views, functions, indexing, and query optimization.

• Database backup, recovery, replication, migration, auditing, and security.

• Working knowledge of Windows Server and Linux environments.

• Database monitoring and performance analysis tools.

• ETL, data migration, reporting, and data integration processes.

• PowerShell, Bash, Python, or another scripting language for database automation.

• Experience with virtualized and cloud-based database environments.

• Knowledge of Redis or other caching technologies will be considered an advantage.
