Responsibilities & Context:

The Association for Alternative Development (AFAD) is a women-led, non-governmental development organization established in 1998 in Kurigram, Bangladesh. AFAD works to empower marginalized women, girls, and climate-vulnerable communities through programs focused on gender equality, disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate resilience, livelihoods, humanitarian response, and social inclusion. With over 26 years of experience, AFAD has implemented numerous projects funded by UN Women, UNFPA, Oxfam, Christian Aid, Malteser International, Handicap International and other development partners. AFAD has a strong grassroots presence, deep community networks, and a proven track record of leading women-centered resilience initiatives across disaster-prone regions of Bangladesh.

AFAD, in partnership with ASDDW (Khulna) and BINDU (Satkhira), is implementing the Gender Responsive Disaster Risk reduction in Bangladesh (GRDRRIB) Project under CFP No. UNW-AP-BGD-CFP-2025-015. The project will mobilize women and girls living in embankment-adjacent, climate-vulnerable areas to lead embankment monitoring, disaster preparedness, gender-responsive governance, and evidence-based advocacy.

AFAD is looking for suitable and qualified candidates for the following positions under the “Gender Responsive Disaster Risk reduction in Bangladesh (GRDRRIB)Project” supported by UN Women Bangladesh.

Location: Assigned unions in Kurigram Sadar Upazila,

Type of Contract: Fixed Term

Duration: 12 Months (November 2025 – November 2026)

Reporting to: Project Manager, AFAD

Job Summary

The Community Facilitator will play a key field-level role in implementing the Gender Responsive Disaster Risk Reduction in Bangladesh (GRDRRIB) Project. This position is responsible for directly engaging women, girls, and marginalized households living in climate-vulnerable, embankment-adjacent communities of Kurigram. The role involves organizing grassroots-level groups, building awareness on disaster preparedness, and supporting women-led Embankment Protection Groups (EPGs).

The Community Facilitator will regularly monitor embankment conditions, document field findings, and support community-driven disaster risk reduction (DRR) activities. The facilitator serves as a bridge between the community and the AFAD project team, ensuring that local women—including those with disabilities—are included, empowered, and able to participate in gender-responsive governance and resilience-building initiatives. This position demands a strong commitment to community mobilization, women’s leadership, and inclusive development.

Key Responsibilities (Not limited to):

  • Mobilize and form EPG groups at union level.

  • Conduct courtyard meetings, making sessions, and awareness campaigns.

  • Support distribution of IGA inputs and follow-up monitoring.

  • Conduct regular embankment monitoring and submit reports.

  • Ensure inclusion of women with disabilities and marginalized households.

  • Maintain attendance sheets, registers, and field documentation.

  • Assist in training sessions, campaigns, and public events.
