Experience:
Master’s degree in Development Studies, DRR, Climate Change, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or relevant discipline.
Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in project management within humanitarian, resilience, climate, DRR, or development sectors.
Experience managing UN or donor-funded projects is highly desirable.
Proven leadership in managing multi-disciplinary teams.
Strong skills in planning, reporting, MEAL oversight, and stakeholder coordination.
Excellent communication skills in English & Bengali.
Experience working with government agencies (BWDB, DDM, UDMC, LGIs) is an advantage.

The Association for Alternative Development (AFAD) is a women-led, non-governmental development organization established in 1998 in Kurigram, Bangladesh. AFAD works to empower marginalized women, girls, and climate-vulnerable communities through programs focused on gender equality, disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate resilience, livelihoods, humanitarian response, and social inclusion. With over 26 years of experience, AFAD has implemented numerous projects funded by UN Women, UNFPA, Oxfam, Christian Aid, Malteser International, Handicap International and other development partners. AFAD has a strong grassroots presence, deep community networks, and a proven track record of leading women-centered resilience initiatives across disaster-prone regions of Bangladesh.
AFAD, in partnership with ASDDW (Khulna) and BINDU (Satkhira), is implementing the Gender Responsive Disaster Risk reduction in Bangladesh (GRDRRIB) Project under CFP No. UNW-AP-BGD-CFP-2025-015. The project will mobilize women and girls living in embankment-adjacent, climate-vulnerable areas to lead embankment monitoring, disaster preparedness, gender-responsive governance, and evidence-based advocacy.
AFAD is looking for suitable and qualified candidates for the following positions under the “Gender Responsive Disaster Risk reduction in Bangladesh (GRDRRIB)Project” supported by UN Women Bangladesh.
Job Summary
The Project Manager will provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and technical oversight for the Gender Responsive Disaster Risk reduction in Bangladesh (GRDRRIB) Project, implemented by AFAD in partnership with BINDU and ASDDW with support from UN Women. The role is responsible for ensuring high-quality program implementation across Kurigram, Khulna, and Satkhira districts, focusing on mobilizing and strengthening women-led Embankment Protection Groups (EPGs), enhancing gender-responsive disaster preparedness, and advancing evidence-based advocacy with government institutions.
The Project Manager will supervise all project staff, manage planning and budgeting, ensure compliance with UN Women’s operational, financial, MEAL, safeguarding, and PSEA standards, and maintain strong coordination with BWDB, UDMCs, DRR departments, GiHA chapters, and local government institutions. The position requires exceptional leadership, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to empowering women as leaders in climate resilience and disaster risk reduction.
Key Responsibilities include (Not limited to):
Project Leadership & Management
• Provide overall strategic and technical leadership to the project.
• Develop annual, quarterly, and monthly work plans aligned with the project logframe.
• Supervise project team including Project Officer, Advocacy Officer, MLR Officer, Finance Officer, and Community Facilitators.
• Ensure high-quality implementation of all project outputs across 3 districts.
Coordination & Government Engagement
• Maintain continuous coordination with BWDB, DRR Department, UDMCs, Union Parishads, and GiHA chapters.
• Facilitate district and upazila-level coordination meetings, inception and closing events.
• Represent the project in external forums, coordination clusters, and stakeholder meetings.
Community Mobilization & Capacity Building
• Oversee formation and operation of 60 Embankment Protection Groups (EPGs) with 900 women.
• Ensure quality delivery of 18 capacity-building trainings and 12 consultations.
• Support IGA implementation (duck rearing, sack gardening) for all beneficiaries.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
• Ensure execution of baseline, midline, and endline assessments.
• Review MEAL tools, monthly monitoring reports, and indicator tracking.
• Prepare donor-quality monthly, quarterly, annual reports, and final project report.
Finance, Procurement & Compliance
• Oversee project expenditure tracking and ensure adherence to UN Women guidelines.
• Support Finance Officer with procurement, audit preparation, and compliance checks.
• Ensure safeguarding, PSEA, anti-fraud, gender equality, and disability inclusion standards.
Knowledge Management & Learning
• Ensure proper documentation of learning, success stories, visual evidence, and case studies.
• Lead sustainability planning, risk assessment, and exit strategy development.
