Job Context:
∎ Location: Dhaka, with regular visits to field locations within Bangladesh and beyond
∎ Duration: Initial contract of one year; based on performance, the contract will be extended up to December 2022
∎ Reports to: Head of Portfolio, Swisscontact Bangladesh

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Portfolio Development

∎ Engage and maintain network with bi-lateral and multi-lateral donors to understand their development priorities in Bangladesh and systematically gather market intelligence on future development projects;
∎ Support project planning in terms of latest instruments, methodologies and tools regarding market systems development, entrepreneurial ecosystem, and value chain analysis;
∎ Support capacity building efforts of the projects targeted at internal staff and partner organisations;
∎ Conduct trainings and workshops on market systems development, entrepreneurial ecosystem, and value chain analysis;
∎ Support the improvement of internal documentation such as results chains, sector strategy and intervention reports;
∎ Participate in internal reviews of projects to provide strategic guidance;
∎ Conduct technical assistance missions to selected projects based on specific ToRs issued by the country office.
∎ Communications

∎ Support preparation of knowledge products such as case studies and communications materials;
∎ Represent Swisscontact in national and international events and forums.
∎ Other Duties and Responsibilities
∎ The Specialist may be required to perform duties that are beyond the scope of the job description given above, in mutual discussion and agreement with the Supervisor.

Additional Requirements:
∎ At least 7 years of progressive experience of working with international NGOs and donor agencies in private sector development; hands on experience in designing and implementing market systems development programmes will be an added advantage
∎ Strong leadership, mentoring, management, and organisational skills
∎ Strong systems thinking and analytical skills;
∎ Ability to work both independently and within a team, assess priorities, and manage a variety of activities with attention to detail;
∎ Strong conceptualization, facilitation, and planning skills;
∎ Excellent demonstrated interpersonal, written, and oral presentation skills in English and Bangla;
∎ Support development and maintenance of a pipeline of projects, both for upcoming tenders and direct acquisition efforts, for Bangladesh;
∎ Support new project concept note and proposal development;
∎ Develop and maintain network with implementing partners for upcoming projects.
∎ Identify skilled personnel with appropriate profiles for existing and upcoming projects and support maintenance of CVs and other relevant information;
∎ Identify additional non-traditional (i.e. beyond bi-lateral and multilateral) funding sources, particularly private foundations;
∎ Develop at least three new project concepts based on Swisscontact's experience and donor priorities and support pitching those to the likely funders.
∎ For each technical support mission, separate Terms of Reference (ToR) will be prepared by the project team. The ToR will specify the scope of the task, deliverables, timeline, and level of input. However, the broad areas will include but not limited to:

∎ Good understanding and strong personal interest in market systems development, entrepreneurial ecosystem and value chain analysis;
∎ Excellent computer literacy in Windows Office applications (especially Word, excel and PowerPoint);
∎ Willing and able to travel within and outside Bangladesh.
