Educational Requirements:
∎ Minimum HSC or as required by the Department of Shipping, Govt. of Bangladesh for
∎ issue of Certificate of Competency.
∎ Class 1 (One) Inland Master’s Certificate, issued by the Department of Shipping, Govt. of Bangladesh as applicable for the size/horsepower of the ship with good
∎ eyesight & normal Colour vision.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ In overall Command of the ship (including houseboat, ambulance boat, speed boat, wooden trawler boat etc.) but acting in a subordinate capacity to the Administrator/Senior Fleet Engineer/Fleet Engineer/Assistant Fleet Engineer of Friendship.
∎ Responsible for all operational and safety aspects of operation of the floating hospital ship along with all the ancillary boats attached to the floating hospital ship (as above) and ensure compliance to all applicable local maritime rules and regulations.
∎ Responsible for the safe navigation, anchoring/mooring, securing including safety of life and fire prevention for the ship and associated ancillary boats (as above) and for on-board staff and visitors.
∎ Required to oversee and control all day-to-day cleanliness and maintenance of the floating hospital including assisting in health program/camps.
∎ He will be responsible and accountable to the Administrator of the hospital ship and/or Senior Fleet Engineer/Assistant Fleet Engineer of the Fleet Management Department in HO for his duties and performance.
∎ He will be overall responsible for the supervision and delegation of duties of the Fleet auxiliary staff for cleanliness and maintenance of the ship, hospital area, navigational equipment, other accessories and equipment in consultation with and guidance of the Administrator.
∎ He will be responsible for developing and maintaining records and systems relating to the day to day activities and maintenance of the hospital ship.
∎ He will be responsible for preparing the requisition of deck stores for the hospital ship and submit to the Administrator for sending to Fleet Management Department in HO.
∎ He will be responsible and accountable for the overall painting, cleanliness and maintenance of the ship and its equipment, accessories etc.
∎ He will be responsible for the erection, dismantling and transportation of the patient sheds, tube well/s, patient toilets and for their proper cleanliness and maintenance.
∎ He will be responsible to keep all lifesaving and fire fighting equipment and appliances of the ship in ready to use condition and shall ensure that all the fire extinguishers are refilled with certificate within due expiry date.
∎ He will additionally be required to conduct regular lifesaving and firefighting drills with all the Fleet and Medical staff of the ship and to train them in the use of fire extinguishers, donning life jackets, firefighting techniques and shall be the lead person for the firefighting team.
∎ He will be responsible, under the direction and guidance of the Administrator and/or Fleet Management Department, to conduct survey for selecting new service locations for the hospital ships for determining suitability for safe passage of the ship from previous location to new location and for determining safe anchoring grounds, water depth, safe securing arrangement etc. for safe stay of the ship for 2-3 months at the new location.
∎ He will be overall responsible for the ship’s safe movement from one location to another along with all the ancillary boats attached to the floating hospital ship (as stated previously) and the on-board personnel of the ships during passage.
∎ He will always be required to observe and uphold Friendship’s Code of Ethics, Policies & Guidelines, Rules & Regulations, Personnel & Confidentiality Policies.
∎ He can be delegated to undertake any other additional duty as required or directed by the relevant higher authority appropriate to his competency or grade and can be transferred from ship to ship as per operational requirement or convenience of Fleet Management Department in a post appropriate to his competency or grade.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age 35 to 40 years
∎ Mandatory: Ship navigation, Ship Maneuvering and ability to interpret GPS readings.
∎ Optional: Use of VHF and Radar.
∎ Communication, motivation, ability to make decisions under pressure.
∎ With Class 1 certificate of competency, Minimum 3 years’ experience as First Master of ship.
