An Interior and Exterior Designer is responsible for creating aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces for both the interior and exterior of buildings, homes, and other structures.

They must balance client needs, project constraints, and aesthetic principles to create environments that enhance the quality of life and culture of the occupants.

Consultation & Assessment:

• Meet with clients to discuss their design needs, preferences, budget, and objectives. Evaluate and analyse the space`s functionality, current design, and layout.

Design Development:

• Draft initial design concepts using sketches, mood boards, and digital design tools.

• Develop detailed designs using software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, or other design programs.

• Select materials, colours, finishes, furniture, fixtures, and other accessories.

Project Management:

• Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other professionals to ensure design vision is maintained and realized.

• Monitor the installation of the design elements.

• Manage project timelines, ensuring timely completion and staying within budget.

Research & Trends:

• Stay updated with the latest design trends, materials, and technologies.

• Visit showrooms, trade fairs, and suppliers to gather design inspiration and product knowledge.

Client Communication:

• Present design ideas and concepts to clients, persuading them of the merits of the designs.

• Handle client feedback and revisions, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed.

Documentation & Compliance:

• Ensure all designs comply with local building codes and regulations.

• Prepare detailed specifications for contractors and builders.

Budgeting & Costing:

• Assist clients in determining project budgets. Source furnishings and materials that fit the client`s budget and design aspirations.
