Job Context:
∎ Background:
∎ Drowning is a leading cause of death worldwide. It`s a serious, neglected public health threat, claiming the lives of 236,000 people every year. More than 90% of drowning occurs in low- and middle-income countries.
∎ In Bangladesh, drowning is the leading cause of deaths in children over the age of one. Globally, the country has one of the highest rates of drowning, especially among newly mobile children. The risk of drowning in rural areas is twice that in cities, because there are significant numbers of water bodies like ponds and ditches, creating natural drowning hazards for very young children. Moreover, parents and caregivers have the constant challenge of supervising small children while working, preparing food, or doing household chores. This means that young children are often cared for by older siblings. In addition, despite the death toll, action to reduce and prevent drowning in rural areas has been not adequate and/or even absent.
∎ A new project to reduce the number of child drowning deaths in Bangladesh is being co-ordinated by Bournemouth University in collaboration with the University of the West of England, Bristol and the Poole-based Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The UK organisations will be working with the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) to reduce drownings among newly-mobile children, generally under two years old. The project is funded by the UK National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) using UK aid from the UK government to support global health research.
∎ The team will be working with communities in the north and south of Bangladesh. Utilising human-centred design techniques, they will identify and prioritise potential solutions, develop the ideas into prototype interventions, assess the acceptability and usability of the interventions with communities in two regions in Bangladesh
∎ The role:
∎ CIPRB are seeking an experienced Research Manager will be able to demonstrate organizational skills, planning and project administration expertise. S/he will oversee the delivery of project titled "Drowning Prevention for newly mobile infants under 2 years in Bangladesh". The Research Manager will be responsible for conducting the research activities and evaluation of the interventions in the project as well as coordination and working closely with different level project team persons including Human Centered Design (HCD), finance, communications and safeguarding.
∎ Work Location: Dhaka with frequent field visit to the project areas
∎ Expected Start Date: At Earliest
∎ Project Length: 4 years

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Design, plan, conduct and coordinate various research activities
∎ Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of the research; keep detailed records of data
∎ Coordinate to develop different research tools mainly qualitative guidelines as well as survey questionnaire based on the objectives of the research
∎ Perform data analysis and technical evaluation of research experiments and results
∎ Summarize results for inclusion in scientific publications
∎ Maintain financial accounts related to research projects
∎ Work closely to manage an interdisciplinary group of researchers to identify evidence-based solution/s and to implement the solution/s to explore the feasibility and scalability of the proposed intervention to prevent drowning among under 2 aged children
∎ Coordinate with intervention team, communication team, finance and admin research in different phases of the project.
∎ Prepare project report on time, share with technical partners and able to accomplish the final report by incorporating the views from the partners

Additional Requirements:
∎ 10 years and more experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research in rural Bangladesh
∎ Candidates having knowledge and experience in human centre design approach/ injury prevention/ disaster management will be an advantage
∎ Having experience community-based research to design possible interventions and evaluation of the proposed design to finalize
∎ Sound knowledge on qualitative research
∎ Excellent skill in verbal and written communications in English and Bangla
∎ Able to produce quarterly and yearly reports along with quarterly activity plan and budget forecast
∎ Managerial proficiency with facilitation, motivation and leadership capacity to coordinate field staff for superlative data and update reporting of the program
∎ Proficient in computer skills, including use of email, internet, Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
∎ Proficiency in qualitative data analysis and technical expertise on qualitative data software, for example Nvivo/ Atlas.ti/ MAXQDA use is preferable.
∎ Able to work with different level of project staff between research and design teams
∎ Need skills and competencies to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, e-mail, on-line base software and web browsing
∎ Fluency in spoken and written aspect of both Bengali and English language are needed
∎ The applicants having work experience in national or international NGO's/ Development Organizations in maintaining accounts of the project will get preference
∎ Excellent familiarity of NGOs and donor (UK government, UN, INGO, Govt. institution) policies and regulations
∎ Computer skills: MS office
∎ Willingness to travel at project areas and to Dhaka office whenever required.

Salary:
∎ Consolidated monthly salary is Tk. month BDT 100,000 to 125,000/month (based on experience)
