Job Context:

∎ ICCO - Part of Cordaid is a leading INGO working for securing sustainable livelihoods, justice and dignity for all in Bangladesh since 1972. Most of the implemented interventions are focusing on Food and Nutrition Security, Climate Smart Agriculture, Disaster Risk Reduction, WASH and Humanitarian Assistance in the geographical areas where people are mostly at risks of vulnerability and poverty (Northern, South West part of Bangladesh and Cox`s Bazar). Globally, Cordaid and ICCO have joined their forces on January 1st 2021, and the new organization will have the expertise of both the organizations together.
∎ ICCO part of Cordaid is implementing a variety of projects and Protection is a cross-cutting issue which all the different teams have to focus on. To build the capacities of the staff, work with the beneficiaries in the communities and strengthen the overall protection component in the implemented projects in Cox`s Bazar district, a protection officer will closely work with all ICCO colleagues. S/he will be reportable to the Head of Humanitarian Response.
∎ Working Conditions:
∎ Working days from Sunday to Thursday with 40 hours per week. This position may be required to work some overtime hours to attend external meetings.
∎ From time to time local/day long travel may be required to reach different working and remote areas.
∎ One-year Contract duration.
∎ Follow ICCO CoC, HR, Integrity, Safeguarding, Gender, Admin and Finance related policies strictly.
∎ Location: Cox`s Bazar District
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Build the technical protection capacity of the staff in the field by delivering protection trainings and on the job capacity building on thematic areas including protection and humanitarian principles, introduction to protection, protection mainstreaming, safeguarding, PSEA, and GBV.
∎ Support protection activities including, but not limited to, protection assessments, protection monitoring, and protection referrals in a timely and transparent manner, in accordance with ICCO and WFP policies and procedures.
∎ Support the technical supervision and day to day management and monitoring of protection issues and ensure that protection is implemented in line with ICCO and WFP policies and procedures.
∎ Ensure gender and protection are mainstreamed during the implementation of all activities.
∎ Support the teams by engaging with relevant government institutions, civil society, organizations, and other partners (when specifically requested to do so).
∎ Support the design and development of technical protection interventions targeting at risk and vulnerable populations, including managing protection assessments where appropriate.
∎ Provide technical support to other technical sectors where necessary and appropriate.
∎ Conduct household visits to vulnerable families and complete protection monitoring questionnaires.
∎ Conduct awareness sessions with community, local leaders, government officials and other persons
∎ Provide in person/remotely assistance and advice to vulnerable households
∎ Ensure that urgent and challenging cases are immediately discussed internally and with WFP Protection team.
∎ Any other tasks provided by Protection Project Manager
Additional Requirements:
∎ In depth knowledge of protection, GBV/SGBV, psycho-social principles, especially in the refugees' context.
∎ Hands on experience of working with affected communities
∎ Implementation of awareness and community mobilization activities
∎ Experience of creating personal work plans
∎ Proven experience in providing weekly and monthly reports
∎ Previous protection experience, preferably in the refugees' context
∎ Ability to conduct and write up clear assessments
∎ Previous experience of liaising with local authorities and community leaders
∎ Knowledge and attendance of UN Cluster system
∎ Fluency in spoken and written English and Bangla (Rohingya language will be an added value)
∎ Good computer skills in MS Office.
